Kelsey Smith

Kelsey was born in Emporia, Kansas in 1985 but claims Nevada, Missouri as his hometown as he moved there when he was 9. Kelsey left for Marine Corps recruit training in San Diego, CA just one week after turning 18 in 2003. After being trained as an 0311 rifleman, he was stationed with 3d Battalion, 7th Marines in 29 Palms, CA. Kelsey first deployed to Iraq in 2004 near the Syrian border. Kelsey’s second deployment was in 2005 to Ramadi, it was here that Kelsey received shrapnel from an enemy sniper round while at an OP. Kelsey deployed twice more to Iraq, in 2007 and lastly in 2008 with Anti-Terrorism Battalion and 2d Battalion 9th Marines respectively. Kelsey then took on the role as a Combat Instructor in Quantico, VA at The Basic School. Unfortunately, the wear and tear that Kelsey’s body and mind had endured was deemed to be too much and he was medically retired from the Marines in 2013.

Kelsey now resides in Bedford, TX. He married his high school crush after his final deployment and they have two beautiful daughters. Kelsey is currently a full time student at the University of North Texas where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and Organizational Behavior. He enjoys being outdoors; golfing, fishing, hunting, and racing are a few of his most enjoyed activities. Kelsey became involved with the WWIA at the 1st Annual Port Aransas fishing event and has worked into being the associate for the WWIA racing events.
