2015 Testimonials

January 2015 BC Lynx with Skinner Creek

I want to start by saying this was an outstanding trip. I couldn’t ask for a more knowledgeable Guide than Doug McMann and the phenomenal food that his wife, Julie served, in my opinion it is first class cooking. On our first day of hunting, Doug and I set out and we had some fresh snow that night. We were only on the road for about 15 min. when Doug spotted our first set of tracks. They looked promising, so he let the hounds loose and they were off. We sat in the truck and watched them run on the GPS unit. We decided to move further down the road to get into a better spot that was closer to the dogs when they treed the lynx. Once the dogs treed the lynx, we hiked in about 2 miles thru the snow to get to our treed cat. Upon arriving we located the lynx in the tree, Doug and I talked for a little bit and took photos of the cat and we decided to let this one go, even though it was a nice size cat he reassured me there were bigger Toms out there. On day two, we headed out first thing and Doug took me out to check bait piles for any signs of wolves. After finding no fresh signs he decided to take a different road then we took the day before to look for Lynx. About 30 min. into our drive we found a really nice Tom track, so Doug turned the dogs loose and away they started baying and on the scent they went. We patiently followed them on the GPS and when they had the cat treed we went on another 3-mile hike thru the snow into the back country to get to our cat. After a grueling hike in we finally got to where the dogs had the cat treed. To our surprise the cat slipped away, and it was a dry hole. Being a little disappointed we hiked out, but I knew we would get another cat.
It was day three, we took off to check bait traps on our way out we ran across a fresh big tom lynx track. The tracks weren’t there on our way in. So, we shot back to grab the dogs and hurried back to the tracks and turned the dogs loose. They took off running and baying, thru the woods. We again like previous days watched the dogs following the tracks on the GPS. After a 9-mile chase they had the cat treed. We decided to go back to the cabin and get the snow machines and ride them in to get to the dogs. We got in about ½ mile from where the dogs were, and we had a short hike in. To our surprise it wasn’t that easy, we had to hike thru and around of a lot of blow downs and had to navigate thru a really dense spruce bog. We finally got to where the cat was treed, to Doug’s surprise he had a client tree a cougar right next to where my cat was treed. We took photos and decided we were going to keep this nice 25 lbs tom. We loaded up the lynx and headed back out to the snow machines for the short drive back to the cabin, high on adrenaline and grateful for such a joyous kill.
Day four I took the day off to let my body recuperate and it was my 11 year anniversary of being injured in Iraq. We sat around and watched Hockey and Football and had a good day of conversation. Day five we went out and sat over a bait pile with no luck on any wolves. Day six we went back to the bait piles and were able to get a coyote early in the morning, we went to a different bait pile and sat on that all day with no luck. All in all, this was a trip of firsts for me, it was my first time getting a Lynx, Coyote, Snow Machining, and watching hockey. Doug, Julie, Courtney, and their Nephew Cody are truly amazing people with big hearts. Staying at their place I felt as if I never left home. For myself it was a physically challenging trip hiking thru the back country, I could see it probably wore on Doug a little that I couldn’t keep up with him, but he never said anything about it. I want to thank from the bottom of my heart the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation, John McDaniel, and Corrina Hart for affording me this great opportunity. I would like to Lastly like to Thank Doug and Julie McMann for providing such an awesome adventure for me to be a part of. The wonderful memories and friendships made during this trip will last me a life time. Thank you for all for the many firsts in my life and memories that this adventure offered, it really means a lot to me.

What a fantastic weekend! Every aspect from the accommodations to the meals to the expert guides made this weekend fantastic. Everyone involved was so wonderful, helpful and really made it possible for duck hunting neophytes to enjoy the sport. It was absolutely amazing to see the outpouring of support from the community. Truly amazing. I can’t even begin to demonstrate my gratitude. I think I’m hooked and look forward to starting to learn more about duck hunting! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

January 2015 Maryland Duck & Goose

I wanted to thank WWIA for the duck, goose hunt in Easton Maryland it was the first time I every hunted water fowl and I have to say it was the best hunting experience I ever had. The hosts were great, they explained in detail what to do. WWIA has a great thing going for them, everyone that helped me and the other three veterans was very nice and understood what we could do and what we couldn’t do which made the hunt that much more fun. I will try to do this hunt again it was the best experience I have had in a long time. Thank you so much WWIA for that hunt.

-S. McDonald, US Army

I just returned from a four-day goose/Duck Hunt in MD. It was the best hunt I have ever had the opportunity to take part in. The Host, Brian with Gabe, Matt, Chad Jr, Chip, Earl and of course Ruckus went far above the call of duty hosting this event. Every part of the hunt and fellowship was excellent in all matters. Mucho birds were harvested, the food and motel were great. Wounded Warriors in Action is a foundation I will proudly support. If anyone reading this wants to support the best program there is in helping vets feel welcome, this is the place. Thanks to all of you guys and gals who made this a most wonderful hunt. Hope to see you again and will be at Camp Hackett in October. Once again, thank you.

I would like to thank the Russell family and friends for opening up their family camp and treating us like family. They made us feel like we were part of their families for a long time. The food was fantastic, even though I hadn’t heard of some of the food (grits). I had an awesome time and thank the WWIA for allowing me to take part in something like this.

February 2015 Woodturning

This week has been totally awesome for me! I can see myself attempting many bowls in the future and trying to pursue other wood projects. The opportunities provided by WWIA continue to overwhelm me. Tony and his crew are very respectful and all the veterans I was with were very thankful for what we’ve accomplished.

-G. Apgar, US Army

This has been a great time! I can see myself turning wood in the future. The options are endless in what you can create. I am very glad to have this opportunity. I have really learned a lot from Tony, Bob and Dick.

-J. Elbe, US Army
Purple Heart Recipient

My passion for the outdoors and the feeling I have when surrounded by others whom share that is medicine alone. An invitation here was meant to be. Woodturning is not stressful, its simply just fun. Watching what most would consider firewood transform in your hands is just a gratifying moment. This event is so laid back and a more at your pace opportunity that I feel at home alongside our host, Tony, as if we were family. The smiles, laughs and table talk amongst us all is such a blessing. As always, I am honored to be involved with WWIA and will forever continue to do my part to ensure other heroes are able to feel the love and dedication that make events so special. In the final hours Tony and I managed to finish a beautiful plate, turn a mushroom and build a 3-D mirrorscope case. This has been the most hands on, knowledgeable week of fun, work and laughs.
The adventure here in WI is coming to close. This past week I have gone from no experience on a wood lathe to a happy apprentice. With Tony, Bob and Dick’s help I was able to craft a backscratcher, a goose call, bowls, plates, a fishing lure and learn an art that is like no other. Woodturning and making chips is therapy an and of itself. The pain, depression and anxiety are lifted and a feeling of worth and accomplishment take their place. Alongside hunting and fishing, this dying art is so beautiful, gratifying and rewarding. As the time dwindles away wooden art is held in hand, made by hand, here in our beautiful country.

April 2015 Galveston Fishing

In so many ways this weekend was just wonderful. Granted, the fish were on a diet of sorts, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. The food was simply amazing and what wonderful company to eat it with. It also makes me feel very good to see some old timers out here as so many are simply forgotten. I am very grateful to our hosts, to WWIA and to my brothers in arms. Semper Fi

April 2015 DoubleCreek TN Turkey Hunt

Words can’t say how much I enjoyed the spring turkey hunt at DoubleCreek. Dennis and Shelley are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The hunting was great, and I know I’ve gained five pounds because they fed us very well! Thank you WWIA for sending me on this trip. I will never forget this experience.

-J. Baldwin, USAF

May 2015 KS Cast & Blast

I would like to thank Justin and all the guys that put on the Kansas Cast & Blast. I was able to shoot my first ever wild turkey and catch a white bass or two. The best part of the event was meeting the other soldiers participating in the event and all the people that helped support it. We were able to sit around and discuss issues that we were facing and how we were dealing with them. Although everyone just met, it felt like we had known each other for years. We were able to talk about anything. It was an awesome event and I would go back in a heartbeat.

2015 May Dave Harris Memorial Billfish Tournament

This fishing trip has been amazing. Not only was I able to fulfill my dream of deep sea fishing, I was able to spend time making new friends with other brothers. This trip has been a blessing just to get away from the stresses of life. Thank you Broda and WWIA.

-A. Estes, US Army

The Harris family and their friends have gone far beyond expectations to welcome and provide for WWIA. The location, event, and the down time was great; but what was truly memorable was they treated us like family as we spent time with our warrior brothers.

-G. Birch

My first time in Mexico and it was awesome. Caught a Dorado yesterday and I am hoping we get some Marlin or Sails for the guys today! I can’t thank WWIA of the Harris Family enough for this opportunity. This has been a once in a lifetime trip for me.

-T. Scott, USMC

I should start this off by saying I thought I knew all there was to know about Gabe until now. That guy has held some good stories back from me! Glad he had a blast last year and I am glad he connected me with WWIA. The Harris family opened up their arms to me and the other WWIA guys. I will forever be thankful to them for giving me a life changing experience. I’ve got some videos of Mark that I will probably delete after this trip or maybe just keep so I can get a good laugh whenever I am down. Its trips like these that save guys’ lives and raise our spirits. WWIA and the Harris family may never know the impact they have made on my life, but they can see it on the smile on my face. Thank you WWIA and the Harris Family!

You all are amazing people and I truly appreciate all you do for guys just like me. As I write this, I am amazed how much people care for the sacrifices we make for our country. Which I was unfortunate to have figured out during my service. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in this WWIA event and meet all of you. I am sorry for the handwriting – this is hard to do with two numb fingers. I hope you will stay in touch and I look forward to our next encounter.

-A. Kisielewski, USMC

I could sit and write for days before I could really say how this trip instantly impacted my life. It’s really easy to have a good time when you surround yourself with good people like we did on this trip. I’ll never be able to fully express how much I appreciate all you who helped bring on this trip. So, simply thank you. You impacted me more than you will ever know.

May 2015 WI Cast & Blast

Dear WWIA, I would sincerely like to express my gratitude for being selected for the cast and blast event in Wausau, WI. Although I didn’t quite “bag” a big turkey, I got to get out into the field again and enjoy nature and relax. Our host, Todd Bohm, is truly a credit to the organization and a gracious host. He and his wife welcomed us into their home and onto their land. Being away from the daily grind for a weekend of hunting allowed me time to focus and recharge. The fact that everything was planned and structured took a lot of the stress out of having to plan a trip like this. Everything about the trip was top notch and I enjoyed some great camaraderie as well. I attached my paperwork as instructed in the OPORD. I look forward to hopefully being able to participate again in a future WWIA event. Thank you again and God Bless what you do for our nation’s greatest men and women.

May 2015 W PA Turkey

When I arrived on Thursday afternoon I was welcomed by Dan and he was a great host for this event and great location. he welcomed me in like I was an old friend that we haven’t seen in years. He got me settled into my room and gave me a tour of the house and the property where we would be hunting. Later on, I met his son Frank and the three guides Steve, Jason, and Todd. it was just great being in such a relaxing environment around great people. Later on, I was able to meet Jeremy and Brian the other wounded vets going on the hunt. I had a migraine the first day of the hunt, so I didn’t go out but from what I heard everyone had a great time. the second day was a great day also. Jeremy was able to get a large turkey late in the morning and Dan and Frank were there to help out with taking care of the turkey and were very informative when it came to harvesting the turkey.

All the meals were great, and Dan and his Family took a lot of pride in taking care of everything. Everything that was done for us was way above and beyond anything I was expecting, and I hope that all Heroes get this when they go to a WWIA event. I will be sure to spread the word about this organization, and I can’t wait to do this again. I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to go on this turkey hunt that was hosted by Dan and his family and the other Veterans that were there. it was a great time, very relaxing and I can’t thank Dan, his family, and the guides that were there enough for their hospitality.

June 2015 BC Bear

The best hunt of my life! Doug and Julie McMann are incredible people ad fantastic hosts. The greeted me with warm hospitality and I immediately treated me like family. From the very beginning, it was non-stop action hunting with the dogs. Oscar will be a legend and he is the only reason I got to harvest such an awesomely huge black bear. At times Oscar was the only dog on the bear at a distance of 1.5 km ahead of the next dog. The bear would not tree and took the dogs on an 8-mile trip until we were finally able to sprint the 300 years into a meadow down wind and take the shot at 75 yards. The black bear was a massive 7-foot bear weighing 325 pounds. Doug is an incredible outfitter and black bear hunter. His knowledge of the area and his dogs are simply amazing. Julie is a fantastic cook and holds down all of the daily activities. This trip was my first time riding a horse and Julie was a great instructor. Thank you! Thank you WWIA for the hunting trip of my lifetime!

To the Stillwater Community of the WWIA
John and Dawn, wanting to say Thank You both for this awesome, amazing and memorable salmon fishing trip! I’m sharing my thoughts and feelings of my experience of a AAR (After Action Review). First you bring a warm welcome into my heart and mind of this amazing tranquility event. I feel overwhelmed with kindness, love, caring into the thought and process of what you soul heartily brought and showed each and every day, from start to finish, of what you so lovingly wanted this part of the WWIA to be for Wounded Warriors. My mind and body has remembered what slow and easy has been for me in the past. I feel I’ve excelled in who I am and who I once was. Which is a combination of happiness and a true blessing. I want to share with you a piece of my wisdom and understanding. I believe that when people say, “Quit thinking about the past!” I always tell them, “The past lives within me, I’m not reliving the past” I also wanted to share for me and other warriors that, “Living for your loved ones is hard, but dying for them is easy.” … You guys make that “Living” part look easier now.
Once again thank you for all you’ve done and all you’re exceeding to do for Purple Heart recipients. You and Dawn are amazing people. I feel it’s so awesome how you both are to each other; a lot of love there shows. Food was awesome, boat was awesome, fishing was awesome, open bay was awesome, facilities were awesome, your house was amazing and just the pure camaraderie was pure awesomeness!
See you guys soon. Can’t wait!!

-L. Day, US Army

John and Dawn, I just wanted to start out by saying thank you! The amount of hard work, dedication by the WWIA and especially John and Dawn Koenig has been humbling. Leaving for this trip, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had the same feelings I do whenever I leave the house. Anxiety and apprehension, usually keep me from going anywhere. Once I met John and Dawn all that went away. This trip has truly touched me. I never thought I was capable of trusting people again, but you two have helped change that. From hanging out in the bunkhouse to the event, every aspect of this trip has helped heal me. Even as I’m writing this, I’m already thinking about coming back. Of all the “Therapies” I’ve been through this has been the only one to truly help me. So once again, THANK YOU!! Anything I can do to help the WWIA to keep going, consider it done! Can’t say thank you enough. You are amazing people. Can’t wait to get back!!

June 2015 Alaska Halibut Fishing

It was a pleasure to offer a few days of fishing, whales, and glaciers, otters, birds, and dragging up the ‘biggest fish ever’ to a few men who sacrificed so much. Thank you for the opportunity to offer this trip again.”

-John Moline
Host

My name is John Kaiser, U.S. Army retired. Wounded Warriors in Action is nothing short of amazing! 3 days of fishing in Seward, AK was both healing and full of non-stop laughter. Our guide John and his girlfriend Susan went the extra mile to make this more than just a fishing trip! Bryan made sure that everyone knew what to expect, when and where to be, and the trip went very smoothly. The group of veterans was awesome, and we had a blast! Thank you for putting this event together and allowing me to be a part of it.”

-J. Kaiser, US Army

I want to say thank you for a wonderful opportunity to get away from the everyday struggles of dealing with the scars of war. Our group was small but was very intimate. It was nice to have a trip leader (Bryan) who also knows the struggles. I appreciate that this did not feel like a dog-and-pony show, it felt like the only agenda was for us to enjoy time with people like us in the outdoors. I have made friends for life.”

-R. Gonzalez, USMC

I was very impressed by how the staff put this trip together. Everyone was very personal. The group of guys that you chose to go on this trip was great, everyone got along great. We were telling stories, laughing, and having a great time. Bryan was a great choice in leading a group like us, a group of devil dogs, grunts, and sappers. LOL. I really enjoyed my time with John (Host) as well as hearing his stories of his time in the Navy. Thank you for this.

The first thing I would have to say is perfect, from the time they picked me up I had a great time. They treated me like they knew me for over 20 years and as their best friend. June 2015 South Africa

It was an amazing trip. The amazing culture of the South African people was an education of itself. It was really interesting to see how different their culture was from ours. The diversity of game was one of the most surprising experiences. It was nothing to see 5 or 6 species in one sitting from Wildebeest to Blesbuck to Impala. I have never heard of a place where there was such a variety at one time. The wildness of the setting was enchanting. Gerhard Vos was a stellar host. His knowledge of flora and fauna blew my mind. He had answers for each of my questions. It was really an incredible trip. Thank you so much!

August 2015 Lake Erie Walleye

As I sit here and input my journal entry I am almost at a loss for words. The amount of awesomeness cannot be calculated. This is my first WWIA event and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Upon arrival I was met and greeted with open arms. The ALR escort to dinner last night has been the highlight thus far. I am not one to like being called a hero as I don’t feel like I will ever be one. However, everyone who has had a part in this has really made me feel like one. Today is always a rough day for me as it is the anniversary of my two brothers being killed while in Iraq. Being here and out of my normal element has helped a lot in keeping my mind occupied. Thank you for that very much. You all are rock stars and I look forward to keeping in touch in the future. As this trip comes to a close I am feeling very blessed to have been selected for such an amazing event. To call us the real heroes isn’t a proper statement. The real heroes are the men and women like each and every one who made this trip possible. Without you all I would have just sat at home this weekend, dwelling on things I cannot change. However, I fished for walleye, I met some amazing people who truly care about the military both past and present and most importantly I molded friendships and bonds I hope last a lifetime. Thank you again for an amazing opportunity. Very Respectfully,

-Matthew Killian

This has been an amazing experience so far. The people here are great. The boat captains know their stuff and enabled me to land the biggest fish I have ever caught. Being out on the lake is peaceful and calming. Mark and I engaged in conversation the whole trip down (7 hours) I really appreciate him driving an hour out of his way to pick me up. I hope I get to participate in more events like this one in the future. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity. Thanks

I am enjoying myself thus far since I have met up with the WWIA and friends. Today’s fishing was great, water was very good, can’t wait until tomorrow to slay some more walleye and whatever else takes the line. Thank you guys so much for inviting me to this great event. I will be telling my other wounded brothers back home about this experience. Thank you again.

To say that I had a great time would be an understatement. This trip went far beyond any expectations that I had. The fishing was great, the food was amazing, but the best part was the group of people that I met. 10 years after receiving my Purple heart I find myself still amazed by the showing of love and support. The WWIA organization is something I can say I am proud to be a part of. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me this weekend and for the support of our wounded veterans from all wars fought!

August 2015 WA Black Bear
John and Dawn, from the bottom of my heart, I am forever thankful! From the second I landed in Seattle, I strongly felt at home and comfortable. Dawn, thank you for taking care of all of us! You took such amazing care waking up in the middle of the night to make us food, and made sure we got out of the door on time… Thank You! The atmosphere at camo is unlike anything or anywhere I have ever been. You both made this a second home for the last week. I am leaving here in peace and at peace.
SSG Brandon Goodell
John and Dawn, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This week has been nothing but peace ad adventure. Camp Stillwater is a true place of healing. My life until now has been full of stress and turmoil, but John and Dawn made that feeling go away.
When I return home the wonderful experience here will forever be in my heart and soul. Your accommodations here at Camp Stillwater were amazing. The no pressure atmosphere made me feel at home. Once more thank you all for showing me a better path I did not think existed. Yours Truly,
-John Gatz, US ARMY

John and Dawn, the time at Camp Stillwater will be remembered forever. Not just for the hunt but for the meeting of good people and good times. August 2015 Healing Heroes in Action

My day on the water with Edwin was incredible. As much as I enjoy bass fishing, it was getting to know Edwin that was the most enjoyable to me. We caught some fish, shared some life stories and made new memories. Exactly what being on the water means to me. My first visit to Oklahoma was better than “OK”, it was Awesome! I truly can’t wait to cross paths with my friend again. Blessed, humbled, and grateful.

-M. Broda, USAF

Edwin, I was excited to have the opportunity to fish with you for the Healing Heroes Tour, until the night before when my son was killed by a truck while riding his bike. After that, I was anxious for a distraction. That night I called Corrina and asked her if I could still do the event. Hindsight, I should have never put you in that situation, but you have no idea the impact it had on our family. In essence, it was the perfect distraction that we needed. Your tour, doing this had an impact on many wounded veterans and I’m certain most all of them have thanked you over and over. I want to thank you as well, but also want to thank you for being there for my family during one of our darkest hours, you brought us on your boat and treated us with so much compassion and respect. To follow up with me after your win at Waddington was priceless. I’m sure Joey was there with you and very happy he was. Edwin, continue to do what you do. Our family wished you the best! God speed!

September 2015 Eagle River Muskie Chal-Lunge

From the buffet Friday night, lures delivered from Joe Boucher and a gift of a St Croix Rod, I was blown away by the level of dedication and thanks of the sponsors. Eagle Waters Resort was beautiful in a true North Wisconsin theme and some of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Getting fishing advice from Boucher and my amazing guide led me to catch the two biggest fish I have ever brought in – 37 and 41 inches! I can’t thank Scott enough for putting this event together – top notch!

September 2015 CO Elk Hunt

This was my favorite experience, and most challenging, that I have done with the Foundation. It tried me as a hunter and I loved that about it. Dan and his crew are first class all the way. It was a great group of guys to hunt with! Thank you!!

Thank you for everything you have done to make this weekend possible. This is exactly what we needed, and we are so honored to be here where there are so many other couples that are more deserving. This is such an amazing program and we thank you for keeping it going throughout the years. Thank you for your husband’s service and for you being a military wife as well. Again, we thank you so much for all the time and effort you have put in to make this possible. We hope to help out in any way we can next year to make this wonderful event keep going.

To all in Wounded Warriors in Action, we did the weekend two or three years ago, but we decided to come for the game dinner every year to show our support gratitude and of course get to know the next group of vets. Words don’t even describe how much this weekend helps us/helped us grow as a couple and just rekindle our faith and hope that wounds from the war can one day be healed. Every year we get to know people who understand the mental/physical injuries/wounds most of the world forgets. This weekend just brings peace of mind and helps us forget those wounds, even if it is just one day. That one day means the world to us! We know JR will be so proud of Ms. Lou in carrying out his legacy and we appreciate Ms. Lou for letting us come back every year! God Bless everyone involved in making this possible. God Bless the vets. Love always,

Lou, Christi, Sean and Milt, thank you for such a fabulous weekend! It’s hard to believe that you can bond and feel so close to people in 48 hours. We had a wonderful time and realize the hard work you all put forth to make this event possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

To everyone concerned, I have never had such a wonderful as I have had here this weekend. Every one of you were fabulous. I feel like I have known you all m entire life. The hunt was the best, the food was fabulous, but most of all the new friends I met were what it was all about. I feel like I now have new members in my family. Thank you so much, it’s something I will never forget! God Bless you all for being you.

To Lou, Christie, Sean and Milt and all your helpers and supporters. Thank you so much for such a wonderful weekend. Lou, you are such a warm and loving person, enthusiasm radiates from you and is contagious! We have received such refreshment to our spirits and feel we have made wonderful friends who understand what we all have gone/are going through. Bruce had a wonderful time, making friends, telling stories and hunting. I am sure this will remain a highlight of our lives. I was especially happy to get to know your friends, including Penny and Karen. Tell them they are so sweet and added so much. This was all more than I deserve! The guys deserve all of this and more, don’t they? Thank you again for all the little details that made this so memorable. God Bless you all, Love

Ms. Lou, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful adventure and all of the warm memories we’ve experienced with you all. Lou, Christie, Shawn, WWIA, thank y’all very much for all you do. I can’t explain what this has meant to me. Personally, I enjoyed this time more than being a participant. Being able to honor our Vietnam Vets was the best part for me. Great people, great time and better memories. We come to as strangers and leave as family. Love You Mary Lou

-M. Yagel, US Army

This weekend never ceased to amaze. We welcomed our first Vietnam Vets and I so wish Dad could have been here for it. My favorite parts of these weekends are the laughter and bonds that is a result. It means so much to me to see the joy in our hero’s eyes. Typically, they each struggle daily as an effect of what they gave physically during war. To see them come and for two days feel safe and loved is priceless. To see their wives, get a chance to remember themselves and a chance to breathe is wonderful. I am honored to be a part. I am so proud of my Momma Lou! I know because of this weekend these heroes and their wives go home renewed and a little lighter then when they came and that makes it so wonderful.

What an honor and a privilege to have with us this year two Vietnam Vets; Bruce Dwyer and Rick Falcone. It was a time to say (a little too late) “Welcome home” and “Thank you for your service” To have Jesse Steele, to thank him for his service. It was an honor to have Milt Yagel, who attended this last year. He was amazing and such a help in all areas. Added to that at our game dinner, Jesse, Milt and Nick Pilozzi (here in 2012) reunited after serving in Afghanistan together. I want to thank Jim (JR) once again for beginning this in 2010; Lt Col John McDaniel for having faith in us, Fae Horseley for bringing forward in my mind that we need to honor the wives, beginning in 2012, for their sacrifices they have endured through the years as support in all areas. I thank God for my daughter Christie, son in law Shawn, for being my right arm. I also thank my community for all the support they provide so that this dream is a real reality. I thank whispering Pines Hideaway for all that they provide. Joh Nolander for arranging dog handlers and events day time and to our dog handlers and Carol Buisch. It is so hard to describe as we all begin as strangers, to walking away as if we have been in each other’s lives as friends, forever. The heroes who so enjoy the bird hunt, (male bonding time) from sadness of experiences, pains endured to laughter of jokes told. The wives in their limo ride for a beautiful Kewka Lake wine tour to brunch and spa treatments at the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa. The female time to share their experiences, pains, joys of being the wife and supporter (Lorie, Pam, Katie)
The appreciation from these couples is amazing from “why are you doing this, we don’t deserve it” to the many “thank you” from each of them. The community, family, friends who come to meet these couples at our game dinner to the Patriot Guard Riders of NY who escort them to our farewell dinner Sunday night. I thank God for being a friend to each of these couples.

October 2015 Bayfield Cast & Blast

The Bayfield Cast and Blast was such an awesome event. I had so much fun duck hunting the first day then Muskie fishing with David Brown the next day catching my first Muskie ever even though we did the “quick release” method on a few bigger ones before they got to the boat LOL!!!! Then on to the deer hunting the next two days. Russ taught me a lot on the placement of his stands and his method of hunting and it helped me out. It was a successful hunt even though I didn’t shoot a deer. I had a great time and learned a lot and saw some deer and a huge buck just a little too far out. The last day I went duck hunting again with Govy and got to shoot my first wood duck, he is very knowledgeable about his duck hunting too. I said I never shot a wood duck before and he said, “you’re not leaving until you get a wood duck” so that made me feel really special, that showed me the people in Delta were truly amazing. Chris and Brenda did a perfect job getting everything planned and ready for us, it couldn’t be planned better except a longer trip haha, just kidding it was perfect. Chris is learning how to talk to veterans one group at a time and he’s taking it very well, it takes a while to understand us and to get our sense of humor but he’s coming along great One day he will be able to fire back with some good comebacks but right now he still in the learning process haha. The Bayfield Cast and Blast was such an awesome event. I had so much fun duck hunting and Muskie fishing as well as deer hunting. The Staff at all the places we went to were so polite, catered to anything we needed and made us feel like there were no problems in the world. Overall, it was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. It helped getting with other veterans in a stress-free environment, sharing stories, and understanding how they coped. I surely enjoyed being around all the nice people in Delta, Wisconsin. Thank you to everybody that had a part in donating to this organization or having any part in putting this together. Trust me it helps us.

October 2015 PA C & B

From the first call I received about coming to the PA Cast and Blast, I was excited and ready to enjoy time spent with vets of all services and eras. This weekend gave me a chance to meet really good people from the great guys at the two camps and the vets that came as a part of the WWIA. I am grateful to all those that ran the program and helped out, it was a great time. I hope I can be a part of the program more in the future.

This has been my second opportunity to go on a hunt put on by the WWIA. They provide the best experiences for wounded veterans from the staff that reaches out to you, to finding the best hosts for these events. Sandy Deveney and the rest of the team that fed, housed and provided us with the opportunity to come to their camp are the reason the WWIA is so successful at giving the wounded warriors a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I came here not knowing what to expect, but with an open mind. I had never been hunting in my life and was very unsure and anxious. I really admire these men that took me through everything, showing me and coaching me along to ensure I had a successful weekend. Very knowledgeable and friendly. With the companionship that was here made for a wonderful weekend for all. The food was always great and there was such a history on this land. I came to Camp Hackett not knowing what it would be about. John and Jake were welcoming and involved. I got to meet two outstanding wounded warriors who will be life-long friends. My road to recovery has been marked by what I felt I needed to do versus what I want to do. Outdoors was once my passion and that fire now has been re-kindled. Thanks John and Jake for helping me make this first step!

November 2015 Prairie Du Chien Duck Hunt

Hard to put this experience into words! I’m very humbled, honored and blessed to have met all my new friends and wounded warrior, Richard near. I’m excited for what is in store for the next time we all come together again. As an avid duck hunter, habit like we hunted at the Duck Inn Lodge is something straight out of a hunting show on TV. The professional duck hunters were experts in the shared passion of duck hunting. It really felt like a dream being here at the Duck Inn Lodge. The people, the lodge and it’s laid back atmosphere, duck habitat and ambience were indescribable. Scott, Tim, Mike, Matthew, Luke (aka the Donkey), Rich, Paul, all of us seemed to just click. Some great friendships were made, and I can’t wait to see my friends again. Their sincerity and generosity were humbling; their time and friendship is unforgettable. It felt nice to be able to breathe and relax. Rich and I both agreed the emotional and mental break was phenomenal. Can’t thank everyone enough! Till we meet again!

-J. French, US Army

Not sure where to begin… Frenchy and Rich, WOW! Thank you for letting us spend time with the both of you. It has been an unbelievable experience the last few days. Seems crazy we just met but seems like we’ve known each other for a long time. You are both class acts, and the country should be proud to have men like you defending all of us. Thank you for sharing your stories and a part of your lives. We can only imagine what you have been through and what you may go through. You are always welcome here. Please come see us and hunt with us again. Stay safe, God Bless you and your families and Thank you for your service and sacrifice for us.

Where to begin? This has been an awesome time. Great people, great event, great food. From the time I arrived it has been a warm, wonderful greeting from everyone. Mark Broda has done an awesome job making sure everything went off without a hitch. Rock and family are some of the greatest AMERICANS in this country. Always a great time getting to meet and be a part of the hunt. This year was a little more user friendly for me because we learned what worked from the time before that. Food and hospitality were excellent as always. Always feel like one of the family when I’m there. The hunt was amazing, everyone got a bird or two and we can say no one got skunked. I want to thank WWIA and J & A services for a once in a lifetime experience. It’s not often I get to spend time with fellow service members who understand and sympathize the daily struggles of post war living. December 2015 Newfield Deer Hunt

First off, I would like to thank the WWIA Foundation for including me in this amazing hunt. I would also like to thank Carol and Bernie Cook for hosting the event. The event exceeded all of my expectations. The hosts and all the guides were very knowledgeable about the terrain and all of the hot spots for traffic. The hosts did an outstanding job with all the food preparation and execution. I also greatly appreciated the class and instructions on the weapon system that we were using and the availability of the said system for the Warriors to use. The lodging was very adequate and comfortable. I would definitely recommend a trip like this to other warriors and plan to try to attend more if I am given the chance.

I first want to express my deepest gratitude for the invite to the hunt in New York. I didn’t put a dent in the deer population, but I have something greater. I have new friends in new places that I can call on to just talk or go have a cup of coffee with when I am in the area. There are things more important in life than getting a deer on a hunt. Things like reliving the good times deployed with other soldiers that might or might not have been in your area. Meeting new veterans who may or may not be as goofy as me. Talking smack across service lines. I have had more fun on this hunting trip than I ever had hunting before. I think maybe that it wasn’t really the deer I was hunting for. Maybe it was just talking to other guys who get it. I think you’re doing a wonderful thing up there in Newfield, NY. I wouldn’t change a thing. God Bless

Wounded Warrior in action was a great organization to go hunting with. The camaraderie was my favorite part of the trip. It was extremely nice to be in an environment with other warriors doing an activity that was really fun to do. We hunted geese and ducks as well as cross bow hunted whitetail deer. Everyone involved with Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation was extremely nice and genuine with their hospitality. Everyone was super professional fun to hang out with and went above and beyond with all of the activities that we were involved in. I enjoyed being taught some things that I didn’t know about hunting ducks and geese and whitetail deer. In addition, I learned a great deal about processing the wild game. It was a huge healing process to help be able to associate gun fire with a positive experience. The banquet at the end was such an emotional experience. I felt extremely appreciated for my service both by all the organizers and then everyone that was involved in the banquet. It was top notch treatment from beginning to end. The generosity was almost overwhelming. Travel to and from this event was seamless. They shipped our meet out to us right away. I have already tried a recipe from one of the cookbooks we were provided. To anyone thinking about going on a trip with WWIAF I would highly encourage you to do so.

December 2015 Great Creek Deer

My experience at Great Creek Hunt Club was an epic experience. Great people, everyone going out of their way to help us. Thank you to all who helped.

-C. Johnson, US Army

When I received the call about a hunting trip in Alberta, VA I was as excited as a kid ready to go to Disney World. It was about two months out, so I built up the anticipation. Finally, on the way up here from Camp Lejeune, NC I built up in my imagination what Great Hunt Creek would be like. The hospitality is unbelievable. I’m an Islander/out of his demographic and the men and women of the club treated us like one of their own. Not one uncomfortable moment. At the first still hunt I had an opportunity to shoot at some deer and bagged a doe. Running the dogs brought an adrenaline rush very similar to combat. It is such a great experience. After the hunts the camaraderie and brotherhood continued as if the men of the club served with me in the Marine Corps. They showed great humor and sarcasm demonstrating to use what long lasting friendships could be. I’d do this again and again if I could. Thanks to the club and WWIA for giving us the opportunity.

-L. Borja, USMC

To be honest I had no idea what to expect coming here to the club. The words to describe my feelings on shooting my first deer would not put the justice of what happened. I am having the time of a lifetime. I cannot thank the Great Creek Hunting Club and WWIA enough for this opportunity. Everyone is kind and would give the world for you. It’s an honor to be invited here. I will forever remember my first deer and all of you. It’s very humbling to think guys like all of you do this for guys like me. Thank you. God bless.
