Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation

2018 Testimonials

2018 NC OBX Waterfowl

I’d like to thank the entire Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation for this entire weekend.  This is truly a life-changing experience you guys afforded me and the opportunity to come back together with my brothers-in-arms.  Allowing me to once again feel that missing bond.  I will always remember this and will forever have you all in my heart and prayers.  The utmost professionalism of your Guides, coupled with the love, appreciation and welcoming of all the people involved is really a touching, heartwarming experience.  Forever in your debt,

This was my first waterfowl hunting experience.  I was very much looking forward to this event since I was offered it in November of 2017.  Not just for the hunt but to share experiences and stories with people cut from the same cloth.

This event brought up many emotions, good and bad that needed to be shared.  The Warriors, Guides, and Hosts succeeded in every possible way.  I would like to thank the Hosts and community for donating their time, money, family, love and stories with us.  I’m absolutely humbled by what they have done for us and can’t believe people truly care about others as much as they do.  My memories of this event will always remind me of the amazing people from Currituck, North Carolina

I have wanted to go duck hunting for years but was never able to.  This weekend I was able to take four different species.  The hunt alone was amazing, but the most amazing part was having time with guys who know what I have been through.  The camaraderie was instant and deep.  I will always remember this weekend for the ducks and for the brotherhood.

Dear Corrina, I would like to take just a minute of your time to tell you just how awesome you and the entire WWIA group are. The hunt in NC was absolutely amazing. For the first time in years, I was able to sleep like a baby knowing that I was surrounded by my brothers that would keep me safe at night. Upon meeting everyone, from Jeremy, who was there to pick me up at the airport, to everyone that was already at the house awaiting my arrival, it was an instant bond, a bond I was so dearly and desperately lacking back in the civilian world. And all this was only possible because of such an amazing organization. From wake up to lights out, I felt absolutely relaxed and at ease; so much so, in fact, that not once did I feel the tension and pressure that comes with being hyper-vigilant from being alone, without a fellow patriot to watch my back. The professionalism and expertise brought forth by Tim, Nick, Wells, and Jeremy were key to a very successful and fun hunt. They made sure that we had everything we needed to be comfortable and safe at the blinds. The fact that there was no need for us to talk about our past and express our emotions or anything like that just removed that pressure that one may feel from being “ambushed” into a “session.” I feel absolutely blessed to have been chosen for this hunt and would attend another hunt, anywhere in the world, if given the chance. I also feel very fortunate to have been around other veterans that have been through the same things I have. Again, this afforded me the opportunity to create new, bonding relationships with fellow PH recipients that understand the struggle. Dan, Tom, and Jay are amazing people. I pray for the continued success of the Foundation and blessings to each and every one of you guys!

2018 Russell AL Deer Hunt

This trip has been amazing.  All the people here have been super nice and helpful.  It is great to see people who still love this country and the people who served.

This event was outstanding.  Everything about the event was great.   I have missed the camaraderie of the Marine Corps since being medically retired and everyone at the Russell AL deer hunt let me know that I can find men like me who are getting through injuries and are finding a way to enjoy life again.  The Russell family has been so kind and generous.  All their family and friends have been so nice and helpful.  Ira is possibly one of the best cooks I have enjoyed.  It is nice to know there are still really good people in this world.  Everyone we met was so very kind and thankful for our service.  Of all the hunting I have ever done, being here has been the best hunting experience I have ever had because of all these great people.

The WWIA organization has just been wonderful.  Corrina was so nice and organized she made getting everything together and ready for this event easy.

John Keeney started off our first phone call by just making me feel at ease and comfortable.  He helped me remember how great it felt just being around another Marine.  It was great talking with him and remembering things I had forgot.  It was wonderful talking with him and realizing we had stomped some of the same ground at the same time.  It’s been a long time since I had these memories and not had nightmares.  The selflessness and caring he puts into these events are so evident and sincere.

I would love to spend more time with any of these great people.

This was an amazing event!  Mr. Ritchie and Mr. Ira made us feel at home and part of the family.  Being an active duty soldier and getting to hang with retired heroes has let me know there is life after the Army.  The hunts were great but the fellowship and hanging out were the best!  Our hosts spared no excuse to make us feel welcome and I am truly sad it is almost over.  This was not an event to stroke our egos or make them (our hosts) feel good about themselves.  It was a chance to make new friends, hang with three brothers and relax!  Thanks Mr. Ritchie, Mr. Ira, Mr. Shane and everyone involved!  Thanks to my three new brothers and thanks WWIA!  You are truly the best.

A very BIG special thank you to everyone who made this weekend possible.  From the staff who created the adventure to Guides and support crew here, you can feel the passion and patriotism.  Everything we did was very well planned and coordinated.  The accommodations were fantastic, and the food was incredible.  Being outdoors with other warriors enjoying time together is truly priceless.  I believe that all warriors should get this opportunity.

2018 Woodturning

Mosinee—The Fifth Annual Wood Lathe Turning Event was a huge success.  The heroes were Ken, Randy, Larry and John.  The instructors were Joe Varga, Jim Anderson, Tony Kopchinski, and Bob Stavran, Dick Henke, pictured in that order.  Veteran Larry got two extra days of turning because Chicago Airport had a two-day delay due to storms.
The items made included a pencil holder, a deep hollowed vessel with top, inlaid plates, platters, bowls, natural edge bowls, mallets, spinning tops, mushrooms, round wooden boxes, pepper mills, Christmas ornaments, wands, duck calls, deer calls, bottle stoppers, and bud vases.  Included are pictures of how the veterans incorporated WWIA pins into their projects.  The number of items was outstanding; the quality. . .phenomenal.  Moreover, the camaraderie among the whole group was fantastic.
I consider it an honor to work with volunteers and veterans such as these.

-T. Kopchinski

First thank you for a wonderful week of new experiences.  Great time of meeting new friends and fellow vets.  The woodworking was “info” plus.  Joe was a great teacher as was Dick.  Thank you for all you have done for me and past wounded warriors.  I am honored to be a WWIA family member.  Again, thank you and god bless.

I have returned to turn wood with three of my fellow veterans, three teachers and Tony.  You are the most generous people I know.  The relaxation this hobby provides is priceless.  I also gain solace in the fat that I am able to now provide plaques to WWIA to help other vets.  Thank you to all for your help with the depression.  I now have purpose.  Thank you, Tony!

2018 Quail Creek FL Spring Turkey

I want to thank the WWIA program for giving me the opportunity to come out to this special event.  By no means was this just an event.  It was a game changer, life changer and a new chapter in my life.  I want to thank our hosts, David Ward, Gene, Frank and Doug for hosting this event.  Coming out here I didn’t know what to expect.  One of my fears was to shoot a gun, as I hadn’t since I have been out of the Marines, 10 years.  Well I’ll tell you what, mission accomplished.  I shot the Osceola turkey, rarest turkey, right in the head.  This was one of the best feelings in my life besides getting married, the birth of my daughter and coming home from Iraq.  This will be a new chapter in my life, hunting and I will appreciate every time I get to be in the outdoors.  John Keeney you are the man I want to thank for your service, for keeping me updated and getting me propped up months before the event.  It was also a great opportunity to spend time with Rod, a Vietnam Vet, which is the real deal.  I will never forget the trip and will continue to communicate with everyone from here.  I recommend this trip to whoever needs a boost in life.

I want to thank all of WWIA.  From my first email from Corrina Hart to the interface with John Keeney.  I received the OPORD and John contacted me by phone and let me know that if he could help me in any way to contact him.  The Quail Creek Spring Turkey Hunt has been Outstanding!!  Mr. David Ward, a grand Host, catering to our every need.  Our Guides, Doug, Frank and Gene have made our morning and evening hunts run smooth.  I have met two outstanding Wounded Warriors, John Keeney and Kevin Menting.

2018 SC Couples Turkey Hunt

This was an amazing hunt with several first occasions.  This was my first turkey hunt, my first bird, the first game I’ve taken since 2007, and the first time my wife and I had gotten to spend any time away from the kids.  I had been on a WWIA hunt in 2015 without taking any game but was still successful!  This hunt was a lot of fun and my Guide, Tim was exceptional with his wealth of knowledge on the game and his ability to bring the birds in.  Brian and Elizabeth were amazing hosts, making us feel like family as soon as we arrived.  I will consider these folks as family and friends for years to come.  I am grateful to everyone here and to WWIA for letting my wife and I enjoy this trip.

I am so unbelievably thankful to have been able to take part in this weekend’s hunt.  Brian and Elizabeth have been phenomenal hosts!  I have never felt so welcome in the company of strangers who so quickly became extended family.  Tim was a perfect pair with Steven as a Guide.  It was also so amazing for Michelle to join him this weekend.  It has been such a blessing meeting Jason and Linda in their journey too.  This will be a weekend to remember for sure.  Thank you form the bottom of my heart for inviting us on such a fantastic event!

This was such an amazing trip!  I have never been turkey hunting before and I was lucky enough to harvest a turkey!  Our hosts, Brian and Elizabeth made us feel like a part of their family and welcomed us with open arms.  They opened their home and hospitality to us.  I was so happy to bring my wife on this trip, so we could get away from work and everything else hectic in our lives.  I had been on a WWIA event four years ago and this event tops that one, if that is possible.  Thank you so much WWIA for inviting me and my wife on this trip.

What a wonderful atmosphere for healing, laughing, sharing, eating, and the camaraderie between our heroes and their spouses.  The Whetstones have a lovely home and I personally appreciated how they opened it to us.  A home with lots of love and positivity.  Elizabeth nurtured us and created an atmosphere full of warmth and laughter.  Brian and Elizabeth are true patriots and heroes in my book.  I will always remember this trip fondly, thanks for everything.

This trip has by far been the greatest highlight in the past few years for myself by a long shot.  There is absolutely no way I could express my gratitude for this amazing group of guys.  The hunt itself was awesome but the ability to get away from the everyday craziness and meet these awesome gentlemen has truly made the trip.

I cannot express in words to show my gratitude and appreciation for the amazing experiences I’ve had these last few days.  From the moment I pulled into your driveway, I knew I was home.  After spending just a few minutes talking with you it felt like I’ve known you my whole life.  Your hospitality is second to none and your hearts are larger than life.  People say that God sends angels to the earth to do his work and I firmly believe that you are two of the best.  If there were more people like you around, the world would be a better place.  From the bottom of my heart I thank you.  If you’ll have me I’d love to bring my family back and visit during a break between your events.  Take care and God Bless you both.

The event was great!  I like how it is like being back in the service with guys around from different walks of life.  It was great to meet Dennis and Shelley along with the guides.  I was able to make friends and tried to help people see that we have different injuries but that we all still have the same issues.

Staff on all sides were accommodating for each person’s needs.  Events like this help not only the veteran but the host and WWIA staff with insight on the effects of the fog of war.  Always keep in mind that one life lost to PTSD is one life too many.  Thanks again for the invite, awesome trip.

Dennis and Shelley, in these times of war across the globe it takes support from great American’s such as yourselves to help those overseas and abroad to push forward.  The past few days have helped those of us that have fought for a nation in media and police turmoil.  To know we still have American’s that are grateful for the freedoms that we provide with great honor!  I cannot say it enough; how grateful I am for the hospitality you have shown this past weekend.

-S. Adams, USMC

I learned a valuable lesson about turkey hunting today.  That lesson was whether you shoot a turkey or not, you will always learn something about the hunt.  I took this advice lightly at first but as I sat in the blind for a couple hours I started to think of many things.  I thought of the experiences I had in the Army.  I reflected on the better times I had with the guys in my squad.  I thought a lot about my close friends and family as I reflected on all these great moments and great people in my life.  I learned that being out on the hunt makes me appreciate life’s better moments and special people you hold deep in your heart.  Thank you WWIA for giving me this opportunity to learn something about the hunt.

Shelley and Dennis thank you for opening your home and your hearts to us.  I cannot measure the significance of this weekend.  It is truly an honor to know great American’s like yourselves.  I had a wonderful time here and will keep this experience close to my heart.

2018 Great Creek Turkey and Fishing Event

My overall rating for this hunt is amazing!  The individuals went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and treated me as though I had known them my entire life.  Nick did an outstanding job in ensuring proper coordination and seeing to my individual needs.  My guide Chris was very warm and friendly.  Additionally, his knowledge, experience and good humor helped me to see the benefits such a hobby could have for someone like me.  I highly recommend continuing the annual turkey hunt.

I was blessed to have had the opportunity to enjoy some amazing company of great Americans this past weekend.  The coordination of this event was no less than top notch.  I was welcomed by all the personnel and could not ask for better hospitality.  I learned so much about turkey hunting from Bobby and I cannot wait to share my experience with my kids as I teach them to become hunters themselves.  Fishing with Chris was hilarious, relaxing and emotionally healing as well.  Major Ball did a terrific job of explaining aspects of hunting turkey from scouting to processing the meat.  I don’t have enough pages I this book to write about all of the superb sportsman of the Great Creek Lodge.  Thank you, Andy Wilson, for hosting us Wounded Warriors, I hope you grasp our appreciation for the healing you have enabled to happen throughout this event.  Nick Fox, you are the man, you know we are going to keep in touch brother.  Wounded Warriors in Action, Thank You!!

I am so grateful for the opportunity to come out to Virginia for this Turkey hunt.  From the word go, everyone there was phenomenal.  From Mike picking me up at the airport to meeting the other Warriors and the team Andy had with him.  I hunted with Andy the first two days.  I was able to harvest my first turkey the first morning and it was an amazing experience.  Andy was a great guide and very knowledgeable of the area.  Being able to hunt, relax, do some fishing and just hang out with all the guys was very therapeutic for all of us.  I’m so thankful for the opportunity and blessed to have some new friends I’ll always be able to reach out to.  Thank all of you, you made a new turkey hunter for life.  Thank you WWIA fort his amazing trip.

2018 WI Cast & Blast

Thank you for the opportunity to attend the 9th annual Wisconsin cast and blast. I had an amazing time with these guys and it felt great to get back in the outdoors. I have forgotten just how much I used to enjoy nature and bonding with guys who share similar backgrounds with me. It was a blessing to be here.  This has given me another opportunity to connect with guys who share a similar bond.  Through hunting and combat it is hard to find people who have done both.  I have had an amazing time here and will keep in touch with this crew.  The memories of this experience will last a lifetime.

I really do not know where to start.  From the moment I hit the ground I was treated with respect and a warm welcome, this lasted the whole trip.  Todd and his men were not only good hunters, they were great hosts and men.  When we were not hunting we were eating or seeing the small town.  Todd’s wife cooked or baked amazing food (I think I gained 10 pounds).  Because of a hard winter, I was able to do some ice fishing which was also a first,  like I said, just too much to write and a wonderful experience that I will never forget.  Frenchy was an awesome Guide and I would love to hunt with him again.  Thank you all in Wisconsin and WWIA.

I was fortunate enough to be selected for this event.  I am honored and very excited to have had this opportunity.  Our Host, Todd and his family and friends were very hospitable and treated us with a great deal of respect.  I want to give a special thanks to our Guide, Frenchy, he was great!  There was no shortage of turkeys and we were able to do a little ice fishing too.  Something that was new to me, great time.  All had a great time and an opportunity to spend some time in the outdoors.  My hat is off to the WWIA, great organization!

I am truly thankful for the opportunity to spend time outdoors enjoying the hunt and time to build camaraderie with new friends.  It amazes me each time I meet new veterans, that no matter which era or branch we came from , we immediately connect and communicate like we’ve known each other.  The hunt is a fun part of enjoying any outdoor activity, but the underlying communication and time together is the healing part for me.  Telling and hearing others stories does big things.  Multiple times I’ve heard people say “Wow, I haven’t talked about that in XY years or ever”.  It does wonders sharing your experiences with vets and non-vets interested and willing to listen, hear you and truly want to understand you.  A huge thanks to Todd and his wife for opening their home and hosting an amazing event, also for rallying his force of locals to support him and all of us.  They are all amazing people that care.  Thanks also to Jon French for all the hard work and effort he puts in to make sure things are fun.  I appreciate everything and will take this motivation home and be inspired to reach out to others in my area to help and spread the word of what WWIA does.  Thanks for a great time!

Every event that I’m fortunate enough to participate in is an adventure.  There are many facets that make these events so special.  The first would most likely be thought of as getting away from an everyday stressful and hard lifestyle.  For some the struggle/work might be making ends meet financially, being married and supporting a spouse and kids or finding a new profession (one that is rewarding and appreciated).  One thing that it seems all of us warriors continuously fight to understand are things like: fitting into the mainstream of society, how best to make a difference like I used to, why are civilian’s morals and values so different than mine and those I served with, and the thought of not being at the pinnacle of life itself , defying death and protecting and being protected by your brothers and sisters fighting along side of you.  You struggle with that loss of identity and strive to have that impact on those around you.  Those struggles often lead to an inability to relax and breathe.  These events like the 9th annual Wisconsin Cast & Blast allocate the time into a Warrior’s life providing a true moment to slow down, listen to the wilderness around us and breathe.  It is natural, hunting and fishing are so primitive, in a way it forces us to relax and focus.  The camaraderie is the second aspect that makes these events so special.  Warrior cultures that we are accustomed to are based on simple morals and values like respect, honesty, brother/sisterhood, hard work and a lot of sacrifice.  In today’s society, it’s sad to say that people with these like norms are scarce.  Warriors feel comfortable and desire to be with these like people, typically other military and prior service members.  When warriors like Blake, Dan, Guy, Thomas and Tony Kopchinski get together there is that immediate connection.  The feeling of someone having your back and having proven to have sacrificed him/her self for you or those just like you.  Although we may think “It’s only us” that can connect in this manner, the people who host the Wisconsin Cast & Blast, Todd and Dawn Bohm, Mike, Bill, Big Todd and all those that are involved with the event, share those similar values.  It’s that likeness that helps us Warriors feel more connected with our society.  They treat us like we treat each other, that is both rare and special.  The group dynamics of this event were excellent and what many of us Warriors strive to achieve in our post military careers.  Warriors share with other Warriors and people they feel comfortable with, like the Bohm’s, Tony and all the volunteers that helped make this event the success it was.  We shared stories , feelings, good and bad experiences, tips to overcome obstacles in our individual lives, as well as tips to help better each other professionally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, mentally and even helpful insights for programs designed to help us.  This event was the catalyst for all these facets to come together.  The intuition and realization of both the WWIA Founder and the individual event hosts, such as the ones on this event, are absolutely incredible.  The friendships, relationships and memories will leave a beneficial impact for all of us involved.  God Bless these extraordinary people who gave this to all of us Warriors, thank you!

I just want to thank you all for such an amazing respite opportunity.  I would have never thought that a fishing trip would have been so much fun.  Not only did we have an awesome time, but we were treated to an absolutely unbelievable time.  Who would have ever guessed that the WWIA group would bring three couples whose husbands served together and all suffering from the same wounds.  As the spouse it was an honor to finally meet the men who served with my husband and to meet the spouses that know exactly how I feel.  I cannot thank you all enough, especially our hosts Brad and Julie and the Guides, Crystal and Gabe.  We are so grateful and thankful.  You all were amazing.  I would also like to thank the hospitality of Fred the dog and Sid the cat for sharing their home, their vehicles, but especially their absolutely wonderful humans, Brad and Julie and Kathy and Dan.

It is difficult to find the words to express our gratitude for all you have done for us for four days in April.  You have shared your home, your food, your pets, Fred and Sid, but most of all your love for your fellow man and your friends that you are blessed to have.  We typically don’t take from others without giving in return, yet we know you expect nothing in return.  Hopefully our appreciation for this trip is enough for now.  This will always be a moment to remember and cherish.  Our hearts have surely grown through this experience.

I don’t mean to sound humble, yet it was tough to accept your generosity at first.  The young man that honestly deserves this died 50 years ago.  I was wounded trying to save the life of a young man from West Virginia that in turn gave his life for me.  I came her in honor of him.  Thank you Brad, Julie, Dan, Kathy, Crystal and Gabe.  God Bless you.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the WWIA Foundation. The hunt I was invited to attend was amazing. I had all but given up on society, thinking that no one really cares about veterans anymore or if they ever really did. My mind has been changed. I now know that there are at least some people that give up their time, money, and homes to help us feel normal (if only for just a few days). It was good to be around other veterans, people who would laugh at a joke I told instead of looking at me like I have two heads. The woods have always been a safe place for me. A way to get away from my stresses. The time I spent in Western Pennsylvania felt like a miracle. Since my time in the Army I have never felt more at home (other than being home). The only time in years I haven’t felt out of place or a burden. It was good for the soul to connect with people who I felt like truly cared for me.  I cannot thank you all enough,

First of all, I would like to say many thanks to everyone who made this weekend possible.  I am extremely humbled by the generosity of the people who donated their time, funding and resources.  Walleye fishing is something I’ve wanted to experience for a long time and you guys made that happen.  But more importantly the opportunity for fellowship and many laughs.  My face and my diaphragm are sore from laughing so much, something I haven’t done in a long time.  This weekend came at the perfect time as I have been struggling with many things.  Now I feel as though I am somehow more equipped with a better mindset to handle the many things that need my attention and more importantly, begin to heal and strengthen relationships with those closest to me.  This foundation has further solidified my belief that there is no parallel to the healing in the outdoors I’ve found with other veterans and outdoorsman.  Thank you again.

I want to say thank you to everybody involved in making this event possible.  I am truly grateful for being able to come fishing and meet and connect with new veterans.  It was one of the best experiences I have had in a long time.  I struggle with anxiety and being around people I do not know.  Coming here, everybody was very friendly and nice.  I am very thankful for that.  Going out on the boats for the weekend and catching a lot of fish was really awesome and relaxing.  Thank you to the WWIA for allowing me to go on this event and have an awesome experience and meet new people.

2018 MoKan Catfishing

This event has been a life changing experience.  I have had a rough transition into civilian life and the MoKan trip was exactly what I needed.  I would like to thank everyone  that was involved with this event.  The outdoors is a great place to escape and enjoy yourself.  I enjoyed the conversation with other Wounded Warriors and all the guys that took us out fishing and everyone at the club.  Everyone was great, and I can’t thank you all enough.

Napier Hunt Club members are some of the best, funniest, friendliest, bunch of guys.  They were always on top of the hospitality.  Their hunting stories and life experiences were fun to listen to and made us laugh.  Never a dull moment.  The men here are great hosts.  The volunteers that took us out on the water were a fantastic group of people as well, the weekend wasn’t the best for catfishing (early breeding) but great for enjoying the quiet of nature.  By saying that, I had a much needed change of scenery and the river was awesome.  Thanks so much.

I feel extremely honored to have been given this opportunity to connect with my fellow PH veterans, gracious hosts and a selfless community. This trip has been healing and made me feel a closeness to others that I haven’t felt since taking off the uniform.

Wounded Warriors in Action is an organization truly dedicated to helping heal warrior’s souls.  From the first time they reached out until the end of our trip everything was taken care of , easy, and well organized. They allowed us to focus on being part of an amazing  experience with some of the best people I’ve ever met, that I plan to stay in contact with in the future.

Hearing everyone’s story, and realizing that you aren’t alone, everyone is experiencing a lot of the same struggles and stressors, and emotions and how they deal with them.

In addition to the foundation, who I think really does save lives by uniting injured service members and helping them connect to nature, I would like to thank; Our gracious host, Mr and Mrs Boisen, who showed continuous gratitude and left you wanting for nothing; and our guide Nathan Allen, who was very knowledgeable on the outdoors and helped keep conversations moving. The memories and experience shared will last a lifetime. Words cannot possibly express how grateful I am for this opportunity and everyone involved.  Thank you and Semper Fi!

It has been 5 years since I’ve seen this crew of AL-In/offshore, but it felt like it’s been only a week. These folks are as good as it gets. Alex, Joe, Ryan are new brothers and Nate Allen made this event perfect. The fishing was great, the weather was great, the food was great, it just can’t get any better. Thank you to WWIA and Ritchie Russell & crew. I had the perfect weekend. God Bless America.

This was my second event out with WWIA. I can’t put into words how much I enjoyed  the fishing, 2 bull reds and 6 big snappers. Mark and Nate are very good at what they do, it was great to make new friends Ryan and Alex. The Hosts and Guides are the best people.

-J. McClister, US Navy

This was my first time to be able to make it to a fishing event. I would like to thank everyone who was able to help put this together. I had such a great time and I would never be able to do this on my own. Meeting all the other military vets was awesome, WWIA, thanks again. I appreciate the effort, everyone went above and beyond, and I’m blessed to be able to meet Mark, Joe, Nate, and Alex. Great company, Great time.

-R. Latella, US Army

I want to thank WWIA so much for this event it did more for me than anything has in a long time. I was able to enjoy the outdoors again. For years I have been isolated and not doing the things I love in life. This event will stay with me to help me along my journey. Nate and Mark did an amazing job, without them this weekend the event could not have happened or went the way it did. What you all are doing for vets makes me proud to serve this great country. Your organization went above and beyond my expectations. Thank you for also having Joe and Ryan on this event, they are great guys who I enjoyed my time with. I also enjoyed my time with the hosts of this event Ira, Ritchie, Mark, Keith, Joseph and Porter.

2018 AK Halibut Fishing

John Moline really knows how to host an event!  He goes the extra mile to ensure you get the full experience of his little home town in Alaska.  Not only did we get to catch fish out of the Gulf, we also enjoyed history lessons; a variety of wildlife and home cooked meals.  He has impeccable patience and knows how to treat people with disabilities with the utmost respect.  Although the harvest is not the most important aspect of these events, I have never seen so much fish sent home to one family.  These soldiers are going to be so proud to go home and share this experience with their loved ones.  Special thanks to Elle and Delta for making this possible.  Joe Liddell was a great help on this event and definitely has the system down.  He made sure the soldiers needs were met, and proved to be a great deckhand, very much so in his element.  Becky put up with all of us too, hauling us around and making sure we were fed.  The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation is very fortunate to have Inn and Out Charters host this event for the past 5 years and looking forward too many more.

-C. Masek, US Army

Thank you WWIA!  When I got the call to see if I wanted to attend this great event hosted by John and Becky, I was so happy that someone finally had something for us women who served.  This experience I cannot put into words.  Some people on the outside of the military don’t understand the feelings you have when you are with another service member of like experiences.  How that connection just links you together, you don’t even have to know their name or story, you just feel the connection.  That is what I miss the most from my service.  Thank you WWIA for allowing me to experience that again.

-C. Cockerell, US Army

Purple Heart Recipient

I would like to say thank you to WWIA and to our Hosts, John and Ms. Becky for allowing me this great opportunity.  The past week has been amazing.  I’ve gotten to know other veterans and talk about similar stories and some of our struggles.  It feels like I’ve known them for years.  Fishing in Seward, Alaska has been an amazing experience, the beautiful scenery was breathtaking, the fishing was amazing as well.  I have issues with my hands and even I was able to catch fish.  This is an experience I am going to remember for the rest of my life, thank you!

-P. Colunga, US Army

I wanted to say thank you very much to both Wounded Warriors in Action and Hosts,  John and Becky.  What an unbelievable experience this was.  It was a very comfortable and very well coordinated trip thanks to Corrina and Joe Liddell.  Everyone was extremely helpful and professional.  Such an amazing crew!  I will never forget this trip, not only because of the great fishing, hospitality and scenery but the camaraderie, conversations and the obvious gratitude to disabled veterans.  This organization makes it very clear that we are not fighting our battles alone.  Thank you very much Wounded Warriors in Action and John Moline.

George and I have been on so many trips together with several different organizations.  I have to say this fishing trip is at the top of the list.  The Host and everyone involved has been outstanding!  The boaters were fantastic and deserve a huge thank you for donating their time and equipment.  A thank you is also given to the families of everyone involved in this chance of a lifetime, as they sacrificed time from their loved ones in order to give us another stepping stone in our healing.  Every aspect of this trip for us was very thought out and planned so we would have an exciting and healing trip!  Thank you to everyone and we hope we can experience another trip with you.

Thank you for the opportunity to come to this amazing event.  Hands down the best event I have been on.  The staff was excellent and took care of us very well.  The support form Ashtabula was very nice and very appreciative of us being there.  The fishing was off the chain exciting.  Boat Captains were professional and got the job done quick.  Your organization is top notch and I will refer fellow Purple Heart Recipients to take advantage of it.

-J. Smith, US Army

First off you guys went above and beyond for us.  It has been a while since I’ve felt the camaraderie of my battle buddies.  The Town of Ashtabula welcomed us with open arms and made this trip amazing.  Walleye fishing one of the Great Lakes has always been a dream of mine and you guys made it happen.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for this opportunity.  I can’t wait to be a part of another WWIA adventure!

-J. Lollis, US Army

As an Army Lieutenant Colonel and Six Sigma Black Belt, you view the world from a very analytical perspective.  Yet realize war is an emotional event because we are human beings and death, tragedy, and violence have the ability to scar us in ways that are difficult to describe in words.  The WWIA is a well-run and tight organization that helps Wounded Warriors in ways that I never thought possible.  Some of their strengths include: Organization: The WWIA did an excellent job of initiating and maintaining contact with me from the beginning to the end of the event, this included a clear and functional OPORD.  Care and Compassion:  It is obvious that the staff and volunteers were doing their best to make me feel wanted and appreciated.  Therapeutic Outdoor Events: WWIA clearly understands the value of executing their events for the recovery of Wounded Warriors.  Numerous other “so called” Wounded Warrior organizations “talk” about the need for outdoor activities in the recovery process, WWIA DOES it, and did it superbly.  I thank God they are a light for those of us who have experienced the darker side of humanity in the combat zone.  With the help of the WWIA we are able to be the “better angels of our nature”, Abraham Lincoln.

-R. Martin, US Army

This was an amazing event even before the Warriors put lines in the water.  The support from the local Veteran Services, Hosts and Community was off the charts.  The tour through Ashtabula with the Legion Riders, City/County/State Police escorts, residents waving American Flags, steak dinner provided by the American Legion – All incredible and hard to comprehend.  Even donations made by the Legion Riders, the American Legion Post 103 and personal funding efforts by “Jello John” were a humbling surprise.  The fishing was outstanding with unbelievable guides, boats and equipment.  So much preparation and organization by Hosts, the community of Ashtabula and Mark Broda, WWIA Guide resulted in this outstanding event.  Warriors were experiencing multiple facets of enjoyment; tours, parades, motorcycle rides, phenomenal fishing, awesome food (Warrior Guzman show-casing his culinary talents)  It was the event that just kept giving.  Outstanding!

2018 Kodiak Alaska Fishing

I just want to thank the WWIA for the excellent experience.  Coming from Anchorage it was always on my list of things to do but never got around to it, it was always one thing or another after my injury and retirement.  Thank you so much for getting me back on track to what it feels like to have the camaraderie back!  Keep up the good work and if anything else comes up in the future please let me know.

-S. Blair, US Army

Thank you for blessing me with this once in a lifetime opportunity to fish in the last frontier of Kodiak Alaska!  From the moment Ms. Corrina contacted me and brought me into the fold, through the final goodbyes in Alaska, the entire experience has been professional, caring and phenomenal.  Your organization has given me a gift that is truly priceless.  I have wanted to visit Alaska my entire life, not only have you made that dream a reality, but you brought people into my life that are simply amazing.  This journey has been a spiritual awakening for me, something I wasn’t even aware I needed.  This trip has centered me.  Kodiak, Alaska swallows you with its raw beauty and allows you to find peace no matter the chaos that is typically found in your heart, mind and soul.  As for the people I have met on this trip, John is an outstanding representative of your organization.  He immediately makes you feel comfortable and bends over backwards to ensure you are taken care of.  Ranger Kiel is a phenomenal person who simply wants to give of himself no matter the cost.  Ryan Sharratt is another phenomenal person with the biggest giving spirit I have encountered in a long time.  Ashley and Branson Wallace are such great people who spent the entire day focused on ensuring we had a great day.  I could honestly keep naming folks that gave of themselves and sought nothing in return, but I would literally fill up this entire book.  In closing, keep up the awesome work you do on behalf of the wounded warriors.  The impact you are making is immeasurable!  I hope to continue this outstanding relationship and assist in your mission in any way that I can!  You are doing God’s work.  Thank you simply falls short on the amount of appreciation that I feel towards your organization and the individuals who entered my life during this adventure.

Saltgrass Lodge 2018

This is one of those events where the fishing was unbelievable, but it was just the icing on the cake.  The sit down, 3-course meals were a time to eat amazing dishes but also have fellowship and hear about the other’s day.  Saltgrass is a high-class establishment and every one of the employees from fishing guides to the chef did everything to make sure we were taken care of every second.  It was a weekend I will always remember and reflect on going forward. A lot of healing will come from my time at Saltgrass with WWIA.

This was my first experience with Wounded Warriors in Action and it was quite memorable.  The fishing experience was amazing.  I learned so much and had fun doing it.  Most of all it was getting to spend time with wonderful hosts and participants.  The food was the best that I have had in a very long time and I won’t soon forget it.  I will remember this experience for the rest of my days.

It as an honor to have been chosen to go on this hunt with these warriors!  I can’t thank the organization enough for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this hunt.  Dan and family took great care of us.  At no time of this hunt did I ever have to worry about anything.  They went above and beyond for the warriors on this hunt.  Nick Fox, WWIA Guide was more than just a Guide right off the plane, he took all the worry out of this trip.  When the Outfitter wasn’t around and even when he was, he took care of any issues we had or did his part to make sure everything went smooth for us.  This trip was a much needed trip to get my life back on track,  Thank you Nick, Daniel, Katie, Vann and the rest of the WWIA Staff for putting on such a great event

2018 PA Cast & Blast

The Cast & Blast was a truly outstanding event! The five Wounded Warriors and two WWIA Guides were treated like Kings. I’m a Vietnam Vet and this is the first time I have been honored for my service in RVN. Sandy, John, and Bill plus all the other support staff and guides made each Warrior feel special and honored.  The hunting and fishing were wonderful, but the bonding with other Warriors was the best medicine ever! Sandy and his staff of volunteers are great Americans that cannot be thanked enough for the way they honored all of us and treated us as Heroes!

The 6th Annual PA Cast & Blast was truly an event that has impacted me in a very positive way.  I appreciated all that was done, everyone was very helpful and treated us Purple heart Recipients like kings.  You guys are rock stars and are true wounded warrior supporters.  I cannot express how appreciative I am to the WWIA for allowing me to participate in such a great event with suck amazing people.

I had an amazing time in Central Pennsylvania with the WWIA and our great hosts at Gravel Spring Lodge.  This opportunity has given me a chance to relax and connect with fellow combat wounded vets from all eras.  I am very grateful for all the work and planning that went into this event.  Thanks again for sharing your passion and love of the outdoors with me.  I had a great hunting and fishing trip and got to do it with a great group of people.

-A. Florentino, USMC

This was the first event I have been to and I am pretty honored to have been able to attend.  For me, it is something that I will not forget.  I can’t remember meeting nicer people willing to give of their time and resources to provide an incredible experience.  The other thing for me was having the ability to connect with other combat wounded vets and visit and talk about things that are never discussed except in the company of these types of men.  For this I greatly thank the WWIA for allowing me this opportunity.  The hunting and fishing were world class just like all the people who I met volunteering their time at this event.  I am sincerely honored and greatly thankful.

-J. Hicks, US Army

This event makes the second I’ve been fortunate enough to attend.  Again, I am impressed to see the many people willing to volunteer their time and show their appreciation.  For me this time was a little different than my previous event.  I’ve recently been thinking of ways to help out my fellow veterans and seeing the other veterans light up when catching monster trout, shooting pheasants or just being spoiled with great food and friendly people made me feel good.  I believe that it was therapeutic for me to see new camaraderie develop in such a short amount of time.  This was truly a great experience, outstanding hosts, amazing setting, exceptional hunting and fishing, and the food was to die for.  I would like to thank everyone involved from the bottom of my heart.

2018 NY Upland Bird and Couples Retreat

We had the most wonderful weekend anyone can dream of here in Palmyra, NY with your family and friends.  When we first came here we met as strangers when the weekend was over we were best friends.  Every day we were astonished at how we were honored by everyone here.   You thought of everything that can make a veteran proud he served his country.  Both Lara and I had a wonderful time; me hunting pheasant with the guys on your beautiful land and Lara going out on excursions with the ladies.  You are by far the most generous, precious and generous person we have ever met.  At our next meeting with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 27 in Hillsborough, NJ I am going to make a presentation of my trip here and encourage more Purple Heart Recipients to get involved with the Wounded Warriors in Action.

My oh my, where to start?!  First and foremost I would like to give praise, honor and all the glory to God; without him none of this would be possible.  This weekend has been amazing!  Words alone cannot give justice what went on.  Garfield and I are just so grateful for this opportunity to come up here to NY and meet each of you, build new friendships and become family forever.  The jokes, the laughter and the joy in everyone’s faces was priceless.  We can never be more thankful for this wonderful time we had.  God bless you Momma Lou for you to continue on this journey.  You are an amazing lady.

2018 Eagle River Muskie Chal-Lunge

Thank you for everything you do.  This was a fantastic fishing adventure for me.  Everyone went out of the way to help me anyway they could, so I could really do and enjoy this opportunity to fish for muskies.  The detailed information, contacts, agenda you supplied was the best I have ever experienced.  You did an outstanding job of putting this all together!

I hope to have a future opportunity on another adventure with WWIA.

-J. Watterson, US Army

First…I would like to thank you and everyone that participated in this event.  A hardy thank you to all.

The experience for me wasn’t about fishing…it was about spending time with other veterans and sharing good conversation.  I must say Bob Jacobs was a great person to spend the day and evening with.  We talked a lot and for me….I made a new friend….that was important.
Scott, the Host was fantastic, from the dinners to the award, he did a great job…Thank you
I spent some quality time talking to other warriors at night, we all share an unbreakable bond with our military experience.  Life is all about people, spending quality time with family and friends, add some warm weather and it would have been perfect!  Thank you again and everyone who volunteered their time to add a great experience for a Vietnam Veteran.

-J. Galgocy, US Army

What can I say? Two years in a row fishing Muskies with some of the best Muskie guides in the world- and even better yet, with wounded Heroes from Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq! Life doesn’t get better than that. The volunteers and sponsors were second to none and our host Scott was spectacular- a selfless and dedicated American- I call him my Hero. It is men and woman like Scott, his guides and his volunteers who truly fill my heart with pride- I am proud to call them all friends. Fishing Muskies two years in a row has been amazing but making new friends in the Wisconsin Northwoods- well that’s something I’ll remember for a lifetime.

-D. Duplisea, US Army

Purple Heart recipient

I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be fishing for musky in Northern Wisconsin.  When the call came, I did not hesitate but accepted immediately and made changes to any conflicting activities, as they were now insignificant.

One day up, fish one day, then one day back. I was very concerned over the logistics and potential complications from many variables beyond our control. (Weather, flight times, connecting times to the second flight, checked luggage transfer especially in Chicago.) I made a tub of gear I might need. My Bass Pro Guide Wear parka and pantsuit, waterproof/Thinsulate boots, gloves and flannel lined jeans. It was less expensive shipping it to Scott Samuels than paying American Airlines for excess baggage, overweight or oversized and yet even then it might misconnect.

The communication at O’Hare was necessary and went well. When you could not make it at least we knew early enough to prevent you from playing O.J. Simpson running through the airport. You knew to notify Corrina to start making other arrangements for you. All it took was, “they have closed the door and the jet bridge is off the plane!” It went as well as could be. My connecting time was so limited I did not have time to find anyone else in the group and didn’t until we arrived at CWA.

Everything fell into place. We 5 met and John McDaniel was there too. We piled into the vehicles and we were off, well coordinated.  My foul weather tote was in my cabin. The facilities at Eagle River Resort exceeded my expectations: the rooms, the dining arrangements, and the pleasantness of the staff.

Then came the after dinner welcome. Each of us was presented a St Croix musky rod, a Diawa reel, a box of musky baits, toques, coffee mugs and the ladies there presented us with a hand made quilt. The sponsors deserve much appreciation from all of us.

I was introduced to my guide, Chas (Dude) Martin from Chicago. A real good guy. He had many musky under his belt and had been tutored by Joe Bucher. I never really go to know any of the other guides time was so limited.

Duke knew the lake chain. He did not show any sign of tiring, and we were on a Lewis and Clark expedition in search of our quarry. We had to get “slimed” with musky slime! I have never thrown artificial baits the size we were chunking that day.  We chunked and chunked, moved and chunked some more. I already knew the musky was the fish of 10,000 casts so this was no surprise. We went here, we went there, we found dead weeds and we found green weeds. It was not for lack for lack of trying. We went into every lake in the chain standing and chunking. The thing about it was we went to every favorite spot Dude had.

He was great. He could handle the banter and dish it out too. We laughed all day except when we made runs between potential previously known success spots. The wind on the face was the only place I had no protection.

On one lake we saw some loons. I had not heard the haunting cry of a loon for some fifty plus years. Needless to say, I did get some pictures. Yes, there were eagles, but you can’t see or hear loons in Tennessee.

Dude is a science teacher in Chicago. He let it slip or he thought I might not notice but good banter is always relished. He ended a sentence with a preposition. I had to tell him how I had been corrected years ago and we laughed whole heartily.

The day was winding down and I did not know it but arrangements had been made to meet Joe Bucher at 3:00pm. I did not know Joe, or his abilities, or his wealth of knowledge. But when he stepped on the boat it was like an aura. He radiated positive vibes, all smiles, and banter material. I did not know him but I felt he has a good heart.

He asked Dude where his prototype bait was, tied it on my line and within 15 minutes I was hauling my musky out of the water. I had no idea the mass of that fish. Its face reminded me of a barracuda except flat and had eyes that read, “I will bite you!” Everything came together. The rod took the fish, the reel handled the drag, and the fisherman played the fish and did not wrench it out of the water like a dragline draws in its material. Dude handled the boat, Joe handled the net and Scott was grinning ear to ear as king on the hilltop. I will never forget that few minutes.

We returned to the lodge and were off to the VFW where we were taken care of again. Gifts of thanks were presented to the sponsors and to the guides and we participants were presented with the memory of a gift of God.

You cannot beat good people with good hearts, good food, good times and no worries.

5am came early the next morning as we scampered about to get to the airport heading home to ride the winds of time. Time rolling back into our state of reality in our own homes and beds.

Thank you Scott Samuels, John McDaniel, Joe Bucher, the people of Eagle River and my boat mate, Dude.

Thank you!  I had such a great first experience.  I am so thankful for all you have done to make my weekend here amazing.  Ms. Shelley the food and desserts were excellent, and the funny conversations were even better.  I cannot thank you enough for all of your hospitality.  Mr. Dennis, I admire you sir.  I can tell you take a lot of pride in maintaining your property.  I loved the hunting stories and all of the fun things  you did when you were younger.  To the guides, I had such a blast.  I felt comfortable with all of you from the moment I shook your hands.  Thank you for the opportunity WWIA, this trip has helped me tremendously and will definitely make it into my memory book.

Thank you for opening your home to us this weekend.  While I am not taking home a deer I am going away with what will likely be life long friends and going home better than I was when I arrived on Friday.  Being given the opportunity to come and connect with fellow veterans and volunteers, has been another great opportunity to heal.  It was great hanging out in the evenings with everyone.  If I can ever do anything to help with any of your events, please let me know.  Also, if you meet other amputees or people facing possible amputation that need someone to talk to and have questions or concerns, please share my contact information.

I’ve been apprehensive about going on a WWIAF hunt.  Not knowing what to expect and if I’d feel comfortable.  After having physical issues lately, the call from Corrina came at the right time.  The hunt and camaraderie far exceeded what I expected.  Awesome is the best way I could describe it.

The hunt, the guides and the host have been amazing.  Learning a new animal to hunt is amazing.  To have the opportunity to be in South Dakota meeting brothers and sisters in arms.  Meeting Gabe and knowing we worked together, and both went to combat arms after being maintenance, small world.

Thank you WWIA for helping me get back into the woods and enjoy nature.

Thanks so much to WWIA and Brad and Julie for the opportunity to spend a few days with brothers in arms and the crew here at Grand Ciel Lodge in South Dakota this weekend.  I feel that I have made friends for life and look forward to spending time with them again on another adventure.  Safe travels to all and wishes for health and happiness in the years to come.

I am humbled and proud to have spent this time around heroes.  Our hosts have been so generous.  I am without words.  The hunting was awesome and the attention to the habitat speaks volumes to the dedication the owners have made to the environment.  I will work hard in growing the relationships I’ve made with the comrades of WWIA Grand Ciel Lodge Pheasant Hunt 2018.

WWIA Crew, this trip to South Dakota to hunt pheasant honestly was one of the best hunting trips I’ve ever been involved with.  Great company, great men, beautiful hunting land!  Thank you so much for the experience and I look forward to doing another hunting event.

2018 Shell Beach Fishing

This weekend was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.  The WWIA put on a great event.  All the staff and captains were very nice and knowledgeable.  We caught lots of fish and had a blast.  Being around other Warriors and Veterans is what made the trip better.  I want to thank everyone that helped make this “trip of a lifetime” happen.  Thank you so much.

-D. Duffer, US Army

I had a blast on this trip.  More than catching all the fish, I think the best part was meeting all of the great people and other Wounded Warriors.  Catching the fish was the icing on the cake.  Thank all of you so much.  Most fun I’ve had in 7+ years.

-C. Strickland, US Army

The staff at WWIA puts on a great event.  Many thanks to all the people that make it possible.  In particular, Derek, Rock, Mike, Terry, Uncle Dave, Ken and Corrina.  I also want to thank Captain Casey, Sterling, Jimmy and the ladies, Judge, Sheriff and so many more.  First time in Louisiana and definitely not the last.  We caught a lot of red fish and speckled trout.  Ended the trip with a 30 + pound black drum.  The camaraderie was second to none.  Many thanks, I’ll remember this trip for years to come.

2018 Bayfield Cast & Blast

After my grandfather passed last year I have been trying to come back to Northern Wisconsin to hunt.  This trip filled that void and helped me to relive all the years he took me out there.  I was able to get my first Musky and buck, a true gift.  The healing and good times between the guys was truly amazing to experience.  Lifelong friendships were made, and I will be forever grateful.

I’m so grateful to Jake and John.  The past 4 days have been a blessing to my soul. Laughter, friendship, and memories are what this place is all about. I’m also thankful to the people of Phillips as they opened up their homes and hearts and made me feel loved. This place is a sportsman’s paradise and I loved being a part of this. A special thanks to Jake for always having a smile and making you laugh. I can’t thank everyone enough, I hope to be a part of this again someday.

Thanks for being a great wildlife steward and guide.  You have the unique opportunity to meet us all and re-expose some of us to the natural wonder of nature.  I feel fortunate to be able to meet you and the Warriors and Cadre.  Stay doing what you do brother.

Thank you WWIA!  This is my 2nd event with you, first time pheasant hunting, so I had no idea what to expect.  A bit challenging as a double amputee walking through the fields.  Having a blast though. Great community in Garrison, ND.  May I hear from you again for a fishing event.  But this get away came at a great time, so I can refocus in my personal life, just going through a small hardship.  Thank you WWIA, I needed this.  Great people, awesome camaraderie.  Thanks to the WWIA Guide, Gabe, great gentleman.  Hope to see you on future events.  You have never let me down.  WWIA you are awesome.

This has been my first experience going out with WWIA, actually this has been my first experience with this type of organization.  Since I left the Marine Corp in 2009, I miss the brotherhood of the military and for the past 10 years I have kept to myself avoiding unnecessary interactions.  This trip has opened my eyes and helped to rebuild the camaraderie that I miss so much.  This experience with WWIA and the generosity of the supporters, town, hosts shows me that there is much good in this world.  I am speechless there are no words to say thank you or to even explain how I feel.  Thank you for making everyone aware and for everything that is provide not only to vets but Purple Heart Vets.

2018 Kuneytown FLX D & B

Veterans Day and I could not have been with a better group of new Vet friends.  WWIA should be very proud of the Kuneytown Sportsmen’s Club and their supporters.  The experience could not have been better.  The volunteers and guides were outstanding.  I believe their contributions were above and beyond all expectations.  A super team I am proud to have been associated with.  From an old not so bold Marine.

-B. Ring, USMC

So, with most things I believe we all have a level of expectations or standards for everything we do.  I had an idea of what I had volunteered for.  The Finger Lakes Chapter of the Wounded Warriors in Action and Kuneytown Sportsmen’s Club well exceeded my expectations and forever raised the bar.  From the volunteer staff and guides to their family and friends who showed up to show appreciation along with a level of respect and gratitude for each and every one of us.  I cannot thank everyone enough.  I look forward to continuing to build friendships that started here and I plan to return and visit.

-M. Huffman, US Army

I didn’t shoot any deer here, but I arrowed camaraderie, laughs, love and new friends.  The average suicide rate is at least 22 a day.  A shining example of a failed system and the need for this event.  My one regret is that this didn’t last longer.  The volunteers are a sweet rarity, like finding gold.  In today’s society finding the hearts of men like this is extremely rare.  Thank you.  I mean that.  God Bless you all.

-M. Welintukonis, Us Army

This trip has truly been one of the best experiences of my life.  I have made so many new friends and they all became family instantly.  What this organization does is provide a chance for wounded veterans to come together and share their experiences.  The hunting has been absolutely amazing.  The professionalism and dedication is so evident when they would take us out.  These folks wanted us to be not just successful in the woods here but when we got home.  Teaching classes on how to clean and process wild game was a really cool part of this trip.  To the staff of this event I just wanted to say thank you so much.  You all worked your tails off to make sure this event was successful and I hope you realize it went above and beyond your wildest expectations.  What you do is give vets another chance to feel like they are normal again.

Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for the last couple of days I have spent here in Seneca Falls, NY during this outstanding event.  This was honestly one of the best experiences I have had and some of the nicest, thoughtful, caring people I have ever met.  The hunting was exceptional!  I enjoyed every minute spent in the field both as part of the group waterfowl hunting as well as having the opportunity to hunt alone at the Seneca Army Depot.  I hope that many Purple Heart recipients get the opportunity to experience this event for years to come.  Thank you so much Keith, Mo, Eric, Scott, John, Bob and all of the volunteers as well as the Kuneytown Sportsmen’s Club, Frontenac Fowlers and the local community of Seneca Falls.  This place will always hold a special place in my heart.

To all the amazing people who made this hunt of a lifetime.  Words cannot express my gratitude to you all for this amazing time.  I had the chance to enjoy great conversations, amazing food, see many great deer and was able to harvest my first archery buck in my life.  I hope to keep all of these new friends that feel like family, in my life.  To my Guide, Steve, thanks just does not say enough on how much I appreciate you taking time out of your life to sit in a tree stand while being rained, hailed and snowed on and dealing with blowing winds.  To harvest my first archery buck with you was an honor.  I hope to be able to do this again.

This was an absolutely amazing adventure!  Since the military I haven’t been able to come back to Tennessee and have always wanted to.  This trip was the realization of that dream and a feeling of more coming.  The beauty of this place and the environment you create is indescribable.  There is something to sitting in your forest amongst the wildlife and the pines with nothing but the sound of the wind.  The way the two of you have built an environment for the Warriors and volunteers is second to none.  I hope to come back soon.

I had an awesome time.  You are both amazing people for what you do for us.  It was tough sled hunting but that did not matter.  I enjoyed the R & R and being with other vets to connect with and just decompress.  Loved the cooking and the hat.  Thank you both.

The absolute best thing I can say is that I felt like I was home.  You both have such open hearts.  I felt as if I was with family.  The only regret I have is that I have to leave.  You have such an amazing and beautiful property, it is therapeutic.  Thank you for hosting us this weekend.  It is an absolutely amazing opportunity you are providing for us all.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

2018 WI Prairie Du Chien

I had never been hunting before this trip and I had some reservations about killing a living thing, but to see how much the animal is appreciated and how this is a way of life really changed my perspective on hunting.  Not only did I learn the essentials of duck hunting, I also picked up a couple skills that are more than likely becoming a lost art.  The one thing that usually keeps me from participating in events like this is that I do not like being treated like a charity case.  The people at the Duck Inn and Rig Em Right did a great job of making me feel welcome, appreciated and comfortable.  It is great to meet these Americans who truly appreciate us.  I must say the best part was meeting all of the cool, humble and down to earth people.  That, at least for me, restores my hope for our wonderful country.  Thank you for making this Veteran’s Day weekend a weekend I won’t forget.  Thank you for your service and I hope we stay in touch.  Please reach out to me anytime, no reason needed.  Until next time, take care.

-K. Brons, US Army

This event was spectacular.  Taking a Warrior who has never hunted prior and creating a passion he never knew he had in him.  He was harvesting ducks, cleaning, prepping and cooking ducks on his own by the end of the event.  To augment this opportunity, Rig Em Right Waterfowl outfitted Kenneth and I with top of the line waterfowl hunting packs, hand muffs, gun slings, shell box holders and their duck hunting expertise.  Thanks to Luis and Tim for such incredible generosity!  Scott Yeoman, Dylan Yeoman, Chico, Nathan Maddox and Mike Valley (Valley Fish & Meats) provided excellent lodging, first rate boats and equipment, laughter, knowledge and camaraderie to no limits.  We duck hunted in the mornings and either helped pull commercial fishing nets on the Mississippi or learned/executed the disappearing art of “hooking” snapper turtles (pulling 6 snapping turtles with several over 30 lbs per turtle), outstanding memories!  The Hosts, volunteers and guides for this event were as good as they come and provide a once in a lifetime experience and healing opportunity to the Warriors.  Sensational!

-J French, US Army

Another great experience.  So honored to have you Frenchy and the other Heroes.  Such a humbling experience to have you guys in our company.  Love you all and thank you again for all you have done for us.  Lots of fun, good times and a great bonding experience.  Good Friends.

-S. Yeomans, Host

Man, where do I begin?  From the duck hunting to the fishing plunger and the turtle stories.  It was an honor spending Veteran’s ay weekend with you Kenneth, Galaxy and the boys.  I thank you guys for your courage and your service to this great country!  You guys made this weekend one I will never forget.  I will always remember and forever laugh thinking about our insane weekend, especially the plugging (haha).  Seriously Frenchy, you guys now have an Albino Ricky Martin to call on for anything you may ever need.  I am blessed and humbled to sit around the table and listen to some of the stories, funny and serious ones.  I can’t wait to have my son be a part of this next year, so he can meet you Heroes and enjoy some stories and even better hunts.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you for everything you have done and sacrificed to fight for our country and freedom.  We are forever in debt to all you Heroes, active and veterans.

First of all, thank you all for everything you went through to make such a wonderful weekend.  Words cannot express my gratitude.  This type of experience far surpasses any medication from a doctor or therapist.  I can say this was extremely therapeutic for me in many ways.  I will be crying on the inside when this event is over and my life turns back to the real state of mind.  From the hospitality to the accommodations down to the extremely nice Henry Rifle we received, this event.  Goes down as one of the best weekends of my life.  Thank you so much again for everything.

Having the privilege to meet the community in the greater St. Joe area will stay in my heart for the rest of my life.  From the sweet school children serving baked goods to the members of Napier opening their home away from home.  I am truly at a loss for words to describe the feeling of pride that I have to represent these types of wonderful people when I served.  This whole operation was organized and executed with professionalism.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It has truly been an honor to be hosted by the finest people this great country has to offer.  Never having been to MO before I can tell you it truly does my heart  and soul good to know the kind of people living here.  I was brought into different homes during this opportunity.  Being welcomed like that, shaking hands, getting hugs, fed, loved, and just being honestly treated like family has done something I cannot express.  I’m taking a lot more home than gifts and meat.  I’ve got my new friends, memories, and gratitude that will help to support me for the rest of my life.  Thank you.  I truly love each of you.

To all founders, donors, and those involved with Wounded Warriors in Action.

I am writing in great appreciation to this wonderful organization.  Thank you so much for allowing myself, and fellow veterans on a hunting trip we will always remember at the Napier Hunt Club.  I’m not sure there are enough words to thank everyone whom I had the pleasure of meeting, and those who made it possible for me to have this experience.  The entire staff, from beginning to end, was warm, welcoming, and so kind and genuine to all of us.  We were all so impressed with everything- from the facility and land, to the hard work and dedication of the guides, and the compassion in which we received from everyone.  It was extremely fun, and an experience I will carry with me forever.

There aren’t many things that can keep my spirits up with everything that I have been through; from being deployed to Iraq and being injured in combat.  I have daily struggles, physically and mentally, that make it hard to see any positives at times.  I thought it important for you to know how much this time I spent with your organization impacted me.  It helped me in ways you’ll never know; with relaxation, laughter, and the good times we were able to take part in, I felt as though my troubles were gone, if only for that weekend.  So, for that, I thank you immensely.  I greatly appreciate the opportunity given to me, and hope you know how much it meant to participate.  I went home feeling better than I have in a very long time.

I have told everyone about Wounded Warriors in Action and my amazing time spent with you all, and how everyone truly went above and beyond for myself, and our fellow veterans.  I just wanted you to know that what you do for Military Families truly means something, and it has a positive impact.  My smile is definitely proof of that.

I just wanted to take the time to say “Thank You” for such an amazing weekend at the 9th Annual MOKAN event. I have never experienced something like that before. I didn’t realize a “Duck Club” was such a big thing! I was amazed at what I saw when I entered the lodge.

The hospitality was out of this world. Food, beds, showers, guides and veterans involved were perfect in my opinion. The swag we were sent home with was a jaw dropper. They had the custom Henry Goldenboy 22, with a Purple Heart coin in the stock. It was a live auction item  at the country club where we went. I told Jake Whipkey, that was what I was bidding on. I got up to 2100 and at the last minute someone out bid me and got it. Needless to say, I was a little pissed I didn’t win. I duck hunted once and killed one. I deer hunted the entire rest of the time there but had no luck. I had plenty of chances to harvest a doe but I was thinking maybe that a MISSOURI Buck would be trailing behind. I did manage to take out a coyote. Successful or not, I had an absolute blast that entire week. If I wasn’t missing the family, I would not have been ready to go home. Brian Roderick and Jake Whipkey were over the top in all aspects of the hunt organization, times, food, and putting people in the right place at the right  time. I felt very welcomed from the minute  I stepped foot into the shuttle.   Lastly, that rifle i was bidding on in the live auction?? Well, little did I know that plans were previously made to present each Warrior with that same rifle. I almost  broke down in front of everyone. I was crying on the inside., for sure. This was better treatment than any medication my VA hospital could ever prescribe.

I know there are a lot of names that I can’t remember that did a lot to make all of this come together so please pass along my thanks and gratitude.

I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in such an awesome hunt.  The camaraderie surpassed anything I had imagined as did getting out into the elements.  For me, this is better than any medicine a doctor could give me.  Its healing power is real and again I am very thankful for that.  I hope to go on other hunts in the future and maybe take an animal.  We saw a lot of wildlife and Minnesota is a beautiful place.  God Bless and thanks again.

Thank you so much for the chance to come on an amazing hunt.  I can’t even begin to explain how much this trip has helped me relax from all of the stress of everything that has been going on lately.  Everyone involved was great and always helpful.  I have never had the chance to hunt with a shotgun which was a very good experience.  Jay’s house was amazing and all of the meals that we had were fantastic.  I know I am not mentioning everything because there are so many great things to say about this trip.  I just want to say thank you.

-B. Thompson, USMC

Thank you so much for the chance to come on a hunting trip of a lifetime.  Everything for this trip has been just amazing but totally stress free from start to finish.  The travel and licenses were taken care of and explained very well, any questions were answered immediately.  All needs were met, and everyone involved was very professional and polite.  The guides really went over the top making sure everyone saw lots of game.   I shot the biggest deer I’ve ever seen and got to do several other firsts, including flushing some pheasants.  The base house with Mr. Jay was mind-blowing as well as the 5-star meals we were fed.  We were also able to meet several of the local farmers and interact with them which was a high point on the trip for me.  I’ll never be able to put into words just how much this trip meant to me, so I will simply say thank you.

This was my first WWIA event, it was great.  Mr. and Mrs. Cook were wonderful hosts and great people.  The deer hunting was good and a lot of fun.  I am so thankful for all the work they put in for us.  The whole family did all they could.  I enjoyed the other three vets and their stories because we were a generation and a war apart.  WWIA has done a wonderful job organizing these events.  I am looking forward to another on if it is possible.

The best part about this trip has been meeting these people.  Mrs. Carol has been amazing.  Her family was wonderful.  It’s been an event that I’ll look back on and remember for a long time.  I’m very grateful for everything WWIA provided for on this trip.  I hope that they are able to continue to provide their services for a long time to other veterans.

Let me start this off by saying that this is one badass trip to have been invited on.  There are lots of great people here.  The Guides, Big Will and Lance have been amazing with making you feel always squared away and put you in the right place at the right times to shoot and kill some deer and whatever else you are hunting that day.  One of the best trips I have been on.

I don’t get out that much anymore.  To be able to get out and connect with other veterans was so amazing.  WWIA is such an amazing organization and I would like to say thank you.  I would also like to say thank you to Mr. French for opening up his home to us.

2018 Great Creek Deer

From start to finish this has been the most incredible and humbling experience ever.  I feel humbled by all the great patriots with their military history, their experiences and their accomplishments giving us so much and even more so, their time.  From the invite to attend this event, to the initial OPORD to the flight touchdown,  I have yet to see such a detailed deployment on such an operation outside of  the military.  Nick and the Great Creek Team were invested, truly wholeheartedly invested in our comfort, success and receipt of gratitude on behalf of WWIA.  This retreat, this golden opportunity in such a beautiful place with such beautifully hearted patriots further concretes our pride in what we do.  It motivates us!  We eat, sleep and breathe what we do because of patriots such as WWIA and the Great Creek Team.  Thank you for all you do.  I am already more resilient after one day in this environment.  Thank you for  taking care of us and our Purple Heart Recipients.  You have fostered a desire to take care of our own with so much pride.  Keep on making a difference and thank you for all that you do.

Gents, there are not enough words to express my thanks for the hospitality, the brotherly open heart and the welcome feel that was expressed during our time with the Great Creek Hunt Club.  Andy, Mike and the many hunters, dog men, dogs and the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. The hunt and the one shot, one kill doe with Ryan was the first time in my life I shot a deer.  The running jokes with the other Purple Heart Vets, Nick, Randy and Scott “Special Forces, Navy Seal, Team Six, Green Beret”.  I feel honored and blessed.  Thank you.

-R. Perez, US Army

I wanted to say thanks to all the members that helped us in the woods.  Special thanks to Andy and Mike for the excellent hospitality.  Although I did not get a deer, I still had a blast.  I will remember this forever!  God Bless the WWIA and Nick for making this happen.

2018 OR Bobcat

Thank you so much WWIA and Fern Ridge Tree Hound club! This was my first hunting trip and I honestly didn’t know what to expect hunting with tree hounds. It was truly amazing! Everyone was so welcoming and eager to share their knowledge. It was great getting to know everyone and getting to interact with the hounds. I was fortunate enough to get a bobcat on this hunt, thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication. Even if we didn’t get a cat it would have been a great time riding around the woods with the dogs. I learned so much and I’m so thankful for this experience! This is something I’ll never forget!

-R. Acosta, US Army

Purple Heart Recipient

I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Bobcat Hunt. As a first time Bobcat Hunter and first experience hunting with dogs, I couldn’t have picked a better organization. The experience and knowledge that the staff brought is beyond anything I could have ever imagined. The willingness and drive of the dog handlers and guides with Fern Ridge Dog Club was beyond reproach. They accommodated us 100%. Even when we needed to rest, they were out scouting.   The accommodations were perfect. The lodge/dining hall had plenty of room for everyone to refuel and rest. It was a very comfortable, relaxing environment. The rooms being a few feet away from the bathrooms was perfect. Constant contact with the WWIA guide before during and after the hunt made for a smooth, seamless experience. I would recommend WWIA to any of my responsible service member friends. I’m so blessed and humbled to have been chosen as a participant.
