2014 Testimonials

January 2014 NC OBX

I can’t remember the last time I have had (with a bunch of open hearted people) so much fun. First time on a waterfowl hunt, the guides hooked me. The respect we had for each other was so tremendous that I hate to say goodbye. The encounters with the people behind the scenes (those feeding us, making sure things run smoothly and the guides) could not be thanked enough for making us feel so good. Meeting other heroes helps to know there to it then the hunt. In two days they have become brothers.
Thank you again WWIA,

This was the 2nd WWIA event I’ve gone on and as usual it was awesome! Part of what made it so special was being able to spend time with Tim. His passion for duck hunting is contagious. The guys I met on this trip seem to be typical of military vets; a little shy at first but brothers at the end. Myself and Jamie were first time hunters and I think we are hooked. I know I am, even if we had not killed any ducks. But, it’s always good to be a first-time duck hunter and bag a Canada Goose with a band! Tim, my thanks to you and Bob, Greg, Tim Brown, Mr. Beasley, Mr. Winslow and everyone else who had a hand in this awesome event. Your Brother in blood,

This was my first WWIA event and I had a great time. The people that set this event up were some of the best people I have ever hinted with or been around. Tim Spence set up an outstanding event, had some great help and unbelievable support. This weekend has made me realize just how many good people there still are in this country. The hunting was some of the most fun I have had in a long time. I have been kind of keeping to myself for a long time since I was injured, and this helped me trust people that I don’t know again. Thank you for doing these events. It is unbelievable support. I can never begin to express how much this has meant to me. Thank you! If not for WWIA I would not have ever been able to do this.

Man, I’ve had a ball, my second event and just as good. Everything planned out and timed perfectly. Awesome experience to be with such great men that were here. Loved the hunting, the food, lodging and the fellowship. To be around other combat veterans who have been through some of the same things I have is just a great experience. Having Three Tim’s and two Bob’s in camp was fun too. Thanks to all that were involved in this event. I’ve been so excited and honored ever since Ilearned I would get to come here. Truly an experience I would have never gotten to experience if it wasn’t for WWIA. Thanks so much.

First, I want to express my thanks and gratitude for inviting me on this Duck Hunt on the Currituck Sound. I’ve never been hunting in my life and this has been such an exciting event. I cannot express my thanks enough to everyone involved. I’ve met so many great people and I made some life ling friends. This was a much-needed break from my normal routine. I usually never get out because I don’t like to be around people but being around fellow wounded warriors and purple heart recipients has made an impact, a positive impact on my life. Thank you so much and if there is anything any of you need from me I’ll be there for you. Thanks Tim Spence for taking me out the second day so I could bag my first and second ducks. Amazing! I’m hooked.

Once again, a big thank you to WWIA for allowing me to be a part of another great event. It was my pleasure to serve all the guys. Thanks to all of you guys for all of the friendships and the fun times. (great group of guys) Hope the future brings each of you great joy and happiness! Thank you, Larry, Tim #1, Tim #2 and family and Mr. Winslow for letting me come again to help out. Looking forward to NC Cast & Blast. Lots of great memories. Stay in touch guys.

Thank you! Once again, a top notch adventure with top notch folks. Being my second hunt with WWIA, it is very evident that not only does the hunt bring a smile to all of the heroes faces, but it also brings local communities together. Thanks for everything. Semper Fi

Just wanted to say that this was one of the best times I’ve had. For the first time duck hunting and now I am hooked. Thanks. Hope to be able to hunt with you all some more and I hope to be a part of WWIA in the future. Thanks again for everything.

I just wanted to say what a great time I had and what it means to just have a weekend with good people who understand what it means to be a vet. Thank you and I will remember this as my first and best duck hunt despite the mud.

May 2014 Dave Harris Memorial Billfish Tournament

I just wanted to let you know what an amazing trip we had with your Wounded Warriors. We could not have asked for a better group of guys. The camaraderie between the Warriors and the participants was very special. At the end of the trip, guys who had known each other for 5 days were hugging each other like they were lifelong friends. I know my brother Dave would have been very proud to have his name on an event that was able to bring so much joy to these true American heroes.
I cannot say enough good things about your people. Dixon and Corrina were a pleasure to deal with and both were very responsive. Mark Broda was fantastic to work with. We all know that the logistics of an international event are large in scope and very complicated. The reason this trip was such an overwhelming success for both the Heroes and our participants was because of Mark Broda’s tireless efforts. He put in an unbelievable amount of time both before and during the trip to make sure all your guys were taken care of and everything went off without a hitch. When I asked my brother if he wanted to do the Wounded Warrior thing again next year, he said “Absolutely, as long as Mark Broda is running it.” Mark is a true asset to your organization.
On behalf of my brothers and I and our families, we want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to host these Wounded Warriors on this trip and to be a small part of what WWIA does. Your organization is doing great things and it was an honor to be a part of it. Keep up the good work. Adios

-Dan Harris

Although writing this entry is hurting my hand; the reason for the pain is blisters from spending nearly an hour reeling I a blue marlin fish in Mexico! Well worth it! The trip, the location, the great folks and the brotherhood will leave a lasting impression. I’m so honored to have been a part of this wonderful trip. It’s organizations like WWIA, missions and trips like this, that change lives! Many thanks and Semper Fidelis.

Men, to say this was a great trip would be an understatement. This was on many levels life changing for me. You are great men. Lots of people talk about “supporting troops” but you have put your money where your mouth is. Thank you so much. I have learned a lot about myself. 1) I am the greatest beer pong player in the world. 2) I now love bill fishing 3) There are great Americans who took time to thank a few vets in a very special way.

-A. Rizer, US Army

Man, what a great trip! Our hosts were all great guys who made it very clear to us how much they value our service and sacrifices, while at the same time not patronizing us at all. They truly just wanted us to have a fantastic trip and each of the warriors did just that. I also really enjoyed the opportunity to meet other wounded warriors and to hear what their lives have been like. Of course, we were VIP at the Jon Bon Jovi concert which was amazing. Thanks, WWIA for pulling all this together and leading by example.

-J. Constantine, USMC

We spent the last five days on a “fishing” trip near Cancun and it was insane! The hospitality of our host was unprecedented and they all went out of their way to give us a good time. The trip consisted of so much more than just fishing as well. The whole trip was filled with fun, friends and amazing activities. Thank you WWIA for inviting me on this trip and working with Dan Harris to set this up!

-R. Kusch, US Army

Well it’s the final morning of the trip. All the heroes caught sail fish, awesome. Our host Dan Harris and his brothers were amazing taking care of all of us. Again, thank you WWIA for inviting me to such a great event.

This trip to Mexico was amazing. Our hosts were amazing. Everyone I met was very helpful and enjoyed us. To catch a Blue Marlin was a fight and was fun! No words can explain how thankful I am to be on this event. Everyone that has had a hand in putting this together did an amazing job. Thank you!

-T. VonSeggern, US Army

In one word, Incredible! The heroes were a great bunch that gelled from the start. The locale could not get better, the fishing, WORLD Class! The hosts and friends were great. Everyone went above and beyond for us and it was so good to be treated like that. Not only was I personally honored to be there, but I left with my new lifelong friends. Thank you so much WWIA for allowing me to be such a large part of this event.

June 2014 WA Chinook

Thank you for the amazing experience that you guys provided. I was really on the fence about going because of my issues and was terrified to be around people that I didn’t know or serve with. John Koeing and crew were amazing, caring and understanding people. I left the camp feeling like John had earned my trust. That is not an easy feat for me. I really am feeling a lot happier and motivated to make a change in my life.
Thanks,

August 2014 Lake Erie Walleye

Wow! What an amazing weekend this has been. Mark, Larry, Steve, the boat captains and the local American Legion, Legion Riders and all the rest that have been involved and done a great job. The camaraderie has been fantastic. I have made some awesome friends with the other veterans here. May God Bless the WWIA for what they have done.

Many words come to mind, amazing, thoughtful, gracious, humbled, honor, love. Just some words to express how I felt during this event. The amount of effort to pull a handful of veterans together and put on an overwhelming event together such as this walleye event is unforgettable. I will always be grateful for the support these great men and women have given us. One more word comes to mind, Thank you!! (ok two)

This was my second WWIA event. I went to Phelps, WI earlier this summer and made some great friends and memories. The whole town was great, and we still stay I contact. This fishing trip was outstanding just as the Phelps, WI trip was. I caught my personal best fish it is something. I will never forget. I’m thankful for all that WWIA does for all of us. I will continue to be about WWIA as my job as a VSO I have been trying to get guys involved in this great organization.

-J. Lichty, USMC

This walleye fishing event was my first event I participated in with WWIA. Overall it was a blast! Not only was fishing a great time but all the people were very nice, caring and genuine. I am a quiet person and don’t engage in much conversations, but all of the staff from WWIA are now my new friends! These guys were well organized and planned everything out perfect. I had a great time and wish this weekend was a full week or longer! To all of you WWIA staff and volunteers, thank you all very much! I am now your friend that you can rely on and I am most appreciative of any other veteran you came across, guaranteed! Thank you all so much for this wonderful memory.

September 2014 NY Upland Bird and Couples Retreat

First, I need to thank Jim Reisdorf (husband, Vietnam veteran, Marine/ Army reserve) for watching on TV a WWIA hunt in 2009. That started our journey of hosting the WWIA Upland NY Bird Hunt / Couples Retreat. This being the 5th year of hosting WW’s, and 3rd year hosting couples, thanks to Fae Horsley, wife of Shawn Horsley who we hosted in 2011. I can’t begin to share the difference it has made to include the wives, 2 who shared in this are also Purple Heart Awardees. The WW’s (men) have a beautiful hunt experience with pheasants and chuker, while the wives have a “girl time” on a wine tour and Spa time. The men connect in an amazing way as the wives do it in a “girl’s way”. They each share life before so many tours and the way life evolves after the tours. It is so awarding to hear each of them sharing and caring about so many concerns, and joys. They also have fun couple times.
This year hosting Caleb & Tannia Dillon, Bob & Rebecca Simonovich, & Milt & Heidi Yagel. Each one was so appreciative of all that we did for them to make this a special time in their lives, to be recognized and thanked for their service to our country. I WISH we could do more! It is such a privilege to honor these couples for what they have sacrificed for myself and so many.
I am so blessed to have a beautiful daughter and son-in-law Christie & Shawn Ingram, who were with me every step of the way. This year 2014 was in memory of Jim (JR) Reisdorf. Because of Christie, Shawn, friends and so many supporters this year was a great success. With so many emotions myself, my team helped to continue Jim’s Legacy to do this event. I will never be able to thank enough all of those who helped in so many ways.
I look forward to 2015, Sept 25th to 28th to continue this journey. God Bless the USA and all of the men and women who have served for each of us so that we have the rights and privileges that we have to be an American.

-Mary Lou Reisdorf
Host

I wanted to say that we appreciate all you have done for us. From the warm welcome to the goodbyes! I haven’t seen Milt laugh that hard in a long time. Seeing that made my heart melt. It was great to see him reconnect with some of his soldiers and watch them hug and catch up on old rimes. I truly enjoyed being pampered and taken care of. I haven’t had that kind of treatment in a long time. Milt enjoyed the hunt and talking to the other wounded soldiers. We will take away great memories and great friendships! Thank you for the great opportunities.

Tannia and I have had a wonderful weekend in the Real New York. The people of Upstate are some of the kindest, most generous, patriotic Americans we have had the pleasure of meeting. It warms our hearts to now call so many people friends. The upland game bird hunting was wonderful as was the wine tasting and spa. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this awesome weekend possible. We will never forget this weekend for the rest of our lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We have had the best time on this trip! We so appreciate everything that you all have done for us. I can’t put into words how much everything has meant for us. Thank you

Lou, Thank you so much for the card and newspaper articles! I have been thinking about our trip this past whole month and I have wanted to tell you what a great, positive and meaningful experience it was for me and my husband. I have never been on any retreat that left such an impression on me. I met great people, had great experiences and with any luck, made great new friends. I really needed the weekend your WWIA gave me. I finally understand why my husband takes the trips that, so many agencies provide. I can’t tell you how thankful I am, but I can tell you how you made me feel. I felt a sense of relief that I finally met and connected with other wives, (Heidi especially) who had been through similar experiences and understand exactly what it was I was going through. I finally didn’t feel so alone. It gave me a renewed sense of purpose this month in caring for my husband and my family, and instead of feeling so isolated for what we had been through, I embraced it. Thank you! The weekend events were great. I loved the food, the wine (especially the wine) and the great spa day. What a great trip. Keep doing what it is you are doing because it is working. The couple’s getaway is a great way for couples to relax and bond away from the everyday stresses of home life. Everyone I met was so grateful and encouraging. I loved every minute of it. This was the trip for me. This is the trip that made me remember why I did what I did all those years as an army wife. I still love my soldier and will always stand beside him. Thank you so very much,

October 2014 W PA Archery Deer

Corrina, Words cannot describe the past 4 days in Rural Valley, PA with Dan, his family and support of friends. The atmosphere that Dan created is something I have personally been looking for in a true escape for a very long time. The Bevevino Team were able to show a level of gratitude and appreciation beyond anyone’s imagination. The lodge was very homely feeling and had the perfect mix of comfort, home and hunting camp. Every detail was executed with perfection and the heroes and myself could not have asked for anything more. Dan’s wife and Mother in Law prepared the meals by hand, real homemade food that truly went above and beyond. Dan worked very hard in the kitchen, preparing breakfasts, readying meals, and having things nailed the first time around. Saturday evening was catered by a family friend’s daughter whom also blew everyone away with her fantastic meal. Lodge atmosphere was again, homely, relaxing and again very appreciated by all. Had the event not even left the lodge, it would have been a home run. The drive into the property was enough to send chills down your spine. Large tracts of soybean, and great patches of timber. Deep ravines and cuts big enough to conceal the largest of buck’s travel. Dan and his team (Steve, Frank, Tim, Jason and maybe more) had setup several ladder stands with a separate guide stand attached just above each. Ground blinds were plentiful and placed along travel routes and field edges. The amount of equipment put out for the event is enough to make a man excited when looking at maps of the layout! Everything was lined up and looking promising. The first morning, the deer woods teamed with deer and everyone had activity. Evening 1 followed suit as well with again multiple deer sightings, close encounters, and Bucks were reacting to the grunt call like I have never seen before. The Buck: Doe ratio must be just perfect, making the bucks, even button bucks, aggressive and lively. The weather was intermittent but overall held out for the best hunting scenario and good winds for the setups Dan had ready. Day 2 AM was windy, slight rain, but the deer were moving and moving well. Evening 2 was tough, winds blew almost all day and a cold front moved which we thought would be helpful but proved otherwise. The activity was still there but winds kept deer further out from stands. Even though no animals were harvested (aside from a groundhog) the heroes were overwhelmed with joy and peace. The woods are soothing, and the company of the guides was welcoming. Both Ralph and Tim could not stop talking about the deer density and overall great time they were having. Dan has truly got a special place. Getting a little personal, I felt a sadness after leaving that felt like I walked away from family I would never see again. Dan and team have a special place in my heart and I hope that the relationship between Dan and WWIA will continue for many years to come.
Corrina and John – Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to represent the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. I am honored to take on the challenge and really grow with every event I am able to attend. John, since day 1 the foundation has meant so much to me, and I honestly feel that Missouri 2011 and Ohio 2012 trips saved my life and forever I am grateful. The foundation too holds a special place in my heart and I will always welcome the opportunity to lead events and represent the WWIA in all aspects. Each event is special in several ways and continually they build on the damaged core within me slowly patching together the hate, frustration, anger, and depression that lies beneath.
THANK YOU, Dan, Corrina, John and everyone involved.

I would like to say thank you very much to the WWIA Foundation for allowing me the opportunity to go hunting. It was a very relaxing experience. And the breathtaking scenery was very therapeutic. I really cherished the time spent talking and laughing with the other wounded warriors as well as with Dan, his family, and the guides. The lodge was very relaxing and plenty of delicious food. WWIA representative Jeremy who’s also a wounded warrior, conducted himself in a professional manner and very knowledgeable at his job. He kept in contact with me throughout the whole process. Jeremy was always putting the veterans as well as the lodge personnel first. I have really learned a lot about hunting scents and will be looking at them from a different aspect for now on. This trip was just what I needed at the right time. I hope to have an opportunity to go on future hunts with the WWIA.

-R. Cipriati, US Army

The hunt in PA was amazing. Dan and his family brought us in and treated us like family. Everything we needed or could have asked for was there. I find myself wishing I was back there every day telling everyone about it! I hope that I can be chosen to go back to Dan’s property again in the future it was the most therapeutic hunt I could have asked for. I hope that all hunts are that way. It was very small and intimate we could relax and enjoy each other’s stories and no one asked us what happened to us how we got injured or anything. It was an honor to be able to go. Dan and his family are unbelievable people and I commend them on being awesome down to earth people… Thank you from the bottom of my heart

November 2014 Kuneytown FLX D & B

The WWIA has given me a new tool set from which I can determine my own recovery plan. This experience was an absolute thrill from the action of the hunt to meeting new individuals with a shared experience and desire. Thank you to WWIA, Dixon Gunther, Keith Tidball and the Kuneytown Sportsman’s Club. Absolutely Fantastic time and event.

I would like to thank John Mac Daniel for founding such a great organization. Thanks to all your staff for doing a great job organizing this hunt. Thank you Brad and Julie and all the associates who made this trip a great one. Everything was more than you could ask for. All the warriors were fun to be with and talk to. It was easy, because we have all been there and done that. It actually helps put closure on a lot of things that we have been through.

I never went on a fishing trip like this. Wow! The People were great, but it felt great to talk to the guy that went through the same thing I went through in Iraq. I am glad many knew the great people and also made us feel at home. I had the best time of my life.

There’s many words I can use to describe this experience, but I will keep it simple and say SPECTACULAR! The people I have met are now my friends. The fishing trip was out of this world. I am beyond honored to have been able to attend this trip. Thank you for the amazing opportunity you gave me.

November 2014 DoubleCreek TN Archery Deer

We had a wonderful hunt here at DoubleCreek. Our Hosts and Guides were all extremely nice and helpful. It was clear that Shelly and Dennis had spent countless hours preparing for this weekend. I would like to thank the Hosts and Guides and all the staff at WWIA that made this hunt possible.

-C. Ritchie US Navy,

First off, I cannot express how thankful I am to have been given such an amazing opportunity. I would like to say thanks to Shelley and Dennis, our Guides, Joel and Jim and all the staff at Wounded Warriors in Action. There was a great group of guys (heroes) that made this event funny and relaxing no matter what branches of the military they were from. Derek VanBuren, Sean Falcon, Christopher Ritchie and myself had an amazing hunt and memory! Once again, thank you!

-C. Baxter, USMC

It’s hard to express my gratitude to Shelley, Dennis, Jim and Joel. This hunt and getaway time was so enjoyable. Shelley and Dennis made us feel like family. Our guides, Jim and Joel went beyond to help in any way they could. Meals were first class, accommodations were spectacular. All the hunters meshed like a well-oiled machine. It was great to be with “the boys”, I loved sharing my experience with all the staff. Derek was a very good friend for the entire hunt. We all talked, laughed and cut up like old friends. WWIA thank you from the bottom of my heart for this much needed time away but also for being with my brothers in arms, a first-class trip and hunt. Shelley and Dennis, again the best hosts ever!

November 2014 MoKan Ducks & Bucks
Let me say how honored that I am to be able to participate in the WWIA Mo-Kan hunt. The guys that were on the hunt this year were truly amazing. More than once this year, these guys brought a tear to my eye. Listening to Garfield talk about shooting ducks and deer (while sitting in a wheelchair) choked me up. Watching Aaron walk across a bean field on his prosthetics truly touched me. The smiles on the faces of these injured vets reminded me why we do what we do to put these guys in the field. The stories and smiles from this particular group have motivated me to a new level. I want to be able to do more, to give more, to these heroes.

-S. Woelk, US Navy

Absolutely a fantastic event and hunting crew. We as wounded warriors take our injuries as they come and for a lot of us we feel that the things we enjoyed pre-injury we are unable to enjoy post-injury. Thanks to organizations like WWIA we are able to get back into doing the things we love. As for me pre-injury, I hunted for 15 years and once I got injured I thought my love and passion for hunting had come to an end because of physical limitations. Thanks to WWIA I realized that is not the case. In 15 years of hunting this hunt with WWIA was the best hunt of my life. So, a big thanks to all who made this happen. Truly, WWIA and its sponsors are the true Americans that keep us and future generations volunteering to join the service.

My experience at Great Creek Hunt Club was an epic experience. Great people, everybody going out of their way to help us. Thank you to everyone who helped. Love to come back.

-C. Johnson, US Army

I had a great time at Great Creek Hunt Club. Everybody was very kind and made me feel at home. Andy Wilson was the greatest host. All the kindness from everyone made me feel very humble. All the people from the club were great and worked very hard to make us feel welcome. The food was very good and homecooked. The dog handlers had the hardest job and di great. The accommodations made me feel right at home. The hunt was very exciting. I am really happy that there are people who really appreciate what we went through in the war and what we have to endure because of it. OI thank God for all the good people and for WWIA for giving me a chance to experience the hunting trip. Also, Derek did a great job.

December 2014 DoubleCreek TN Rifle Deer Hunt

I had a great time in Hohenwald, TN. Dennis and Shelley were excellent hosts. The accommodations they provided were top notch. I was entertained the whole time. Joel and Darren came out to help us and they provided transportation and entertainment for us. Mike, unfortunately could not show up but Tom and I had a great experience swapping stories. I am grateful for the WWIAF. I hope the foundation is around for a long time to provide veterans with similar opportunities. No one harvested a deer but good times for all. Thank you, Derek.

This weekend was so relaxing and stress relieving for me. The hosts, Shelley and Dennis were extremely accommodating. They had a beautiful home and cooked amazing food every day. This trip was a great time even though we didn’t harvest anything. I’m so grateful for WWIA for providing me an opportunity to hunt and spend time with fellow veterans. Thank you,
