Purple Heart Veteran FAQs
Thank you for your service! We welcome you to attend one of our world-class hunting or fishing events at no cost to you.
Once we receive your application, our Hero Engagement Specialist will contact you with 5 business days. The amount of time before you are scheduled to participate on an event depends on when we receive your application, your preferences, and your availability. Some events (e.g. bear hunting) are very rare opportunities and can have a longer wait.
Yes. Our goal is to reserve each Purple Heart veteran every three to five years. If your contact information has changed, please update us with your new information here. No need to resubmit your full application.
The WWIA values your service to our nation a great deal; however, we are a Purple Heart organization. All of our activities and funding streams directly support our mission. There are lots of ways you can get involved with our work.
Yes, as long as you were wounded in combat and can provide documentation of your Purple Heart award, we look forward to serving you!
Yes, you can! We will work very hard to find or plan an opportunity that matches your abilities. To serve you, all we ask is that you are upfront with us regarding your needs and challenges. Specifically, if you require a caregiver or a service dog, please let us know on your application. Additionally, if things change as you go through different phases of recovery, please be sure to keep us up to date. We understand that things will change over time as you progress through your healing and we need to know about these changes to serve you best and ensure a rewarding experience with WWIA.
Yes, please! Click here so that we can update your information in our database. If we can’t contact you, we can’t serve you.
Purple Heart Associates
WWIA Purple Heart Associates are combat-wounded veterans who have been nominated by their peers and validated by the Foundation as leaders who are loyal and dedicated to supporting our mission and the Heroes we serve. Once trained, our Purple Heart Associates volunteer their time to provide the critical link between the Heroes, hosts and WWIA on all of our events.
Prospective Purple Heart Associates are selected through a nominative process by current Purple Heart Associates and validated by the WWIA Staff.
Hosting
The first step is to complete our Host an Event form. Once received, we will be in contact to discuss your idea within three to five business days.
Once the Host Application is filled out, our team will review it. You should expect a phone call or email within 5 business days to discuss the details of your proposal.
Thank you for your interest in serving our Wounded Warriors. While we certainly do appreciate your generous offer to host a Hero, this opportunity is not in the scope of the services we provide. A main pillar of WWIA is to connect 3-5 Purple Heart veterans with each other to foster the kind of small-group camaraderie they experienced in the military. Hunting and fishing is just one facet of what we do here—without the element of bonding with other veterans who share similar challenges and experiences, these Heroes don’t experience the same quality of healing.
If you are still interested in getting involved in some way, you might get a better idea here. Thank you so much for your interest in WWIA and please let us know if you have any other questions.

Volunteering
There are many ways to help, such as assisting with fundraising or promoting awareness. However, unless you have an event in your area, it is unlikely that you can volunteer to work directly with a Hero. If you are interested in finding out more about ways to support WWIA’s mission, please visit Get Involved or contact us at info@wwiaf.org.
Please contact us at info@wwiaf.org and let us know your location and how you’d like to help. We will do our best to put you in contact with the proper person.
