I want to give a huge thank you to the staff of WWIA, Nick Fox, and Tim Spence for a once in a lifetime trip. This was my first hunting trip ever and with the great hospitality, experienced guides, and hosts, I was overwhelmed, and this exceeded what I was looking for. It was great being able to be myself around fellow heroes and share a bond only few share. I will never forget this experience and after shooting my first trophy duck, I’m looking forward to hunting in the future. This is a great and awesome organization and I wish the best for future trips. Once again, I really thank you for this trip and the opportunity to bond with great people.

Thank goes out to WWIA, Nick Fox, and Tim Spence for taking me on my first duck hunt, it was a fantastic endeavor. Although the weather didn’t hold out for us on the last day. I had a wonderful and memorable time. Thanks goes out to the county of Currituck and all those that assisted in the effort of making this a memorable experience. I was extremely humbled at how hard it can be to call in and shoot a duck. Thank you and Semper FI

2017 MD Duck & Goose
This is the first event I’ve been on with WWIA and it’s been nothing short of an incredible experience. From my interactions with Corrina in getting everything in place through the execution of the event, it has been nothing but first-class treatment. Having been on other trips/events with other organizations, I will say that you guys have met the mark. It’s obvious that you guys have met your founder’s intent by bringing together a group of genuine and sincere people who just want to spend time together outdoors. I can’t say that every other organization has that same focus. The generosity of the host and all the people who have come together donating their time, money experience is unmatched. They have all known each other a long time and welcomed us into their group like we’ve known each other forever. That kind of companionship is hard to find. It just so happened that I found myself in a blind with two other men deployed to the same area I was in and trading stories of the villages and people we had in common brought up memories I hadn’t considered in a long time. I understand this is the 5th or 6th year this event has gone on and I hope it continues for many more. Every veteran deserves to be treated this well. I can’t thank you guys and WWIA enough. I’ll be talking about this weekend for a long time to come and will certainly keep in touch with the new friends I’ve made. Thanks again for everything.

It’s hard to describe or fully put into words how grateful I am for being able to partake in this hunt. This was my first hunt and experience with WWIA. At first, I was nervous, I didn’t know what to expect, but was amazed at the experience. I had an opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and learn about waterfowl. I can’t put into words how thankful I am to have been in the presence of a group of people who opened their hearts and community to make us feel welcome. All the people involved demonstrated the true strength of community and the genuine kindness of people. I will be forever grateful and will never forget this weekend.

This is the first event I’ve been on with WWIA and it was one of the best hunting weekends of my life. The camaraderie with other vets was second to none and was great therapy for me. I can’t say enough about our host Brian. He and all the guys that helped were awesome! The hospitality that was shown to us was unbelievable. The food that was provided was excellent as was the hospitality shown to us wherever we went.

Top class event. This is a very established hunt that is the standard we should follow. The Heroes stayed busy and kept them on their feet. The guys laughed a lot and opened up fast to set a steady pace for a fun weekend. Food was outstanding!! Tim, good job.

WWIA gave me a hunt in South Alabama. Being from South Alabama I grew up hunting the terrain. I had not been to Alabama (my home sweet home) in over 3 years. WWIA got me back down south. I meet 3 fellow troopers that will now become my brothers for life. I made friends that I look forward to keeping in touch with as long as I walk the earth. I want to thank WWIA, Ritchie, Ira, Keith and Bucky for giving me one of the best times…times that will not be forgotten.

I appreciate what WWIA does. I had a good time on this trip, great food, good fellowship and a great hunt. I am glad for organizations like WWIA. It’s hard for me to get out and do a lot of things. Thanks.

Thank you to everyone that made this experience possible for me. This trip was exactly what I was yearning for and I didn’t even know it. The fellowship and friends made are very special to me. I’m not the type to just go out and make friends, but the people I met here made it so easy to relax and just have an amazing time! To connect with my brothers and share experiences and laugh together was awesome. Mr. Ritchie and the guys are an awesome group that truly care about the veterans and ensuring we have a time to refresh and relax. I spend most days in my house and this trip gave me the push I needed to go home and relax a bit and just enjoy my family and the life God has given me. John was a great associate and a great guy that I connected with in ways beyond the military. I say all of this to say thank you to WWIA. You have helped me more than you will ever know!

Every time we host a WWIA event I am amazed on how humble the heroes are. They are always very gracious and tell us thank you for hosting the event for them. Upon arrival to the event everyone is pretty conservative with their conversations. Once everyone gets to know each other is when the magic happens. Good conversations are abundant. The real healing is around the camp fire after the hunt. The guys usually will start sharing their experiences, thoughts, and fears of being a wounded combat veteran. On many occasions, the heroes will express how good it feels to discuss the life changing events with kindred spirits, and how good it makes them feel. When they make those types of comments, it makes all of the work and prepping worth the effort. It also makes me appreciate the good life that I have, and we owe it all to them.

This duck and goose hunt was so much fun. I had one of the best times out this weekend chasing duck/geese and helping others hunt. Everyone was extremely helpful with accommodating everyone’s needs and showing us a good time. I was extremely impressed with the turnout of the hunts and would love to come back any time. Thank you everyone for everything you do for the veterans. It helps out a ton just getting out and meeting new people. Thank you!!

I don’t think I could have asked for a better group of guys to hunt with. From the start, I was taken care of by the most genuine group. This equates to being with people you have known for years. Don, Stu, Richard took care of everything to make sure we had the best time. Saturday’s hunt was the best part. With such a great spot and great setup, you couldn’t ask for better. This weekend has been a once in a lifetime experience. There was never a dull moment. I am so thankful for the opportunity to hunt ducks and geese. This is something I will never forget. I can’t wait to do more with this great organization. Thank you, Wounded Warriors in Action for everything. This has made dealing with issues better.

What a wonderful experience. From the moment of arrival, I felt welcomed. The Hosts/Guides were awesome. I truly had an awesome time and learned so much about hunting duck and goose. Thank you for the experience. This was more than hunting as I enjoyed the camaraderie of being with other wounded veterans. I made new friends for sure. I certainly will not forget this experience and time shared with fellow combat wounded. I enjoyed sharing memories of service and telling stories over the campfire, getting up early and placing the decoys. I certainly enjoyed shooting the ducks and geese.

2017 Woodturning
The Wood working event was terrific. Tony and his teachers were really fantastic, and their generosity was more than I expected. Meeting the other wounded warriors from other states was amazing; and plan on meeting them again someday. If you need someone to go again next year to this event I would surely go. Thank you, Corrina and the Wounded Warriors, In Action Foundation for inviting me to this event.
-C. Winnekens, US Army

This is an amazing opportunity to learn more about turning wood. I’ve learned so much and had so much fun. Tony taught me so much the first day he helped guide me while I made a plate and a bowl on my first day. I couldn’t believe it, Tony had me so confident on the 2nd day when I was with Bob, I went straight in to making a goose call, and Bob was the man to help with that. I couldn’t ask for better teachers or a better organization. This is the best. Thank you so much.

“I never thought of myself doing any woodturning, boy was I ever wrong. I will say this has been the best thing I have ever done. -D. Merchant, US Army

I was recently on an event for WWIA. I went to a 4-day workshop on wood turning in Wisconsin. I had so much fun at this event because I have never done anything like it before. Learning how to make art out of a chuck of fire wood, is awesome. I was pleased with the group of teachers I interacted with. They had so much patients with this newbie. Also, they made it so easy to be there and welcoming. Everyone that I encountered with in the community was amazing. The other vets were good to be around and made it a great week. So, in all I had so much fun at my first WWIA event and hope to do many more events in the future. In closing I needed a get away from my everyday life and clear my head. This trip was just that.

This was a very exciting trip for me. I have never done a pheasant hunt and it was incredible. The individuals that put this together did a very good job. The group of people that volunteered made this a wonderful weekend. I will have this memory for a long time. Thanks.

What a great weekend. We all arrived the first night, had dinner and great conversation with other vets. Day one we had a very good breakfast, then trap shooting clinic with the WI DNR. After lunch we headed out to the hunting field at WI Southwest Pheasants Forever. What a blast! As a group we harvested 28 birds. Dinner was again great, steaks and potatoes. Day 2 is starting well, we have had breakfast and will head out with our guides to harvest more birds. I am thankful to WWIA, Southwest Wisconsin Pheasants Forever and the WI DNR for this event.

Had an absolutely amazing time at Tanglewood Ranch. Every need was taken care of, and the incredible food was served constantly. I got to see a few familiar faces, as well as meet some new brothers. Some of the highlights included getting to have 1-on-1 time with the guides, especially Dave and his dog Boone for me. Getting to know each other and make personal connections, getting to swap stories with the other Vets was awesome. And of course, the hunting was GREAT! Even in the cold windy weather. The guides were very fun (and forgiving of our less than perfect shooting), and the dogs were a pleasure to watch. We all got plenty of shooting, and the excitement was addictive. Thank you to all the guides, the support, the volunteers, the cooks, Tanglewood Ranch, the DNR, and WWIA. I leave here today feeling absolutely blessed, humbled, full of admiration, but most importantly, cared about. God bless everyone who had a hand in the event and may your lives be touched and blessed in return.

Hunting at Tanglewood Hunting Club and with Pheasants Forever was one of the best hunting trips I have done. The camaraderie of the Wounded Warriors was fantastic. Had a great time on this Pheasant hunt. We got a lot of shooting in between the clay’s and the Pheasants. The lodge was beautiful, and the people were very friendly. The guides were true professionals. We also had a lot of time to talk with each other and tell our stories.
-R. Smith, USMC

This Pheasant hunt was an amazing. First day arriving we got to meet everyone and talk about the events to come. Day two we started with skeet practice, then a timed skeet shoot competition hosted by the DNR. Lunch was to follow that and shortly after was the first bird hunt. They placed 60 birds in the field for us and at the end of the day we harvested 28. Day three, breakfast, and 70-80 birds to be placed and then depart. This was a very good event; the hosts were amazing.

This was a great hunt, although we couldn’t get any turkeys. It was still a great time. The landowners were a great group of guys who really cared about what they were doing for us. I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who made this trip possible, especially the WWIA and the host Mr. Ward. Mr. Ward went way above and beyond to make us feel at home and comfortable. 2017 SC Couples Turkey Hunt
From the initial contact call from Corrina to our last minutes of the event, I was nothing short of impressed, humbled and grateful for everything Wounded Warriors in Action has done for my wife and me. Tim was engaging and thorough regarding all aspects of the trip and truly added to the overall experience. On the host family side, Brain and Elizabeth were absolutely amazing. Not a second passed where they weren’t doing everything they could to make our stay exactly what it was, amazing. The hunting was awesome for a “new” turkey guy, but the connection made with the host and other warriors and wives made this a trip I won’t soon forget. Thank you to all who made this possible and thank you for making all of the Wounded Warriors you have touched feel “normal” again. Semper Fidelis!

This is the first spouse Wounded Warrior event, regardless of association that I had been to with my husband, and I am so grateful and humbled by the experience. Mr. & Mrs. Whetstone welcomed us with open arms and throughout the event I absolutely felt like family. From the wine to the spa day, to the family style dinner every night, I could not have asked for a better experience for my husband and me. Thank you for making this possible!

What an outstanding event!! Everything was perfect. The hosts Elizabeth and Brian went overboard with welcoming us all into their home. They are so warm and caring. Tim, the liaison was also very friendly and concerned about our comfort. The men loved the turkey hunt and we women had an awesome time wine tasting, spa day, and sharing stories and laughter over lunch. LOVED THIS EVENT!! Also, made life time friends.

It was rewarding to be back in the company of our nation’s warfighters after being retired for a decade. Since this was an inaugural event, there was a steep learning curve. In searching for support and assistance from the surrounding community, it was very powerful seeing the outpouring of real patriotism and sincere respect. Thanks to WWIA for providing an outlet for service to fellow warriors.

2017 Great Creek Turkey Hunt
This is my first WWIA event and I am very pleased to have been invited and humbled to be here. I’ve been hunting since after my time in the service as a way to cope with the stress of PTSD. I’ve only been here for 1 ½ days and already have been on 3 different birds. The odds are in our favor with two more days left. I’m anxiously awaiting the chance to harvest my first turkey. With that being said, even if I do not tag a bird, this trip has been a success. Success is not measured by kills/harvests, but by advancing your knowledge and by the friends and memories you make. I hope to make many more friends at future events and am blessed and thankful for the ones I’ve made here. Thank you WWIA!

Great company, great place, and great time. Some people come and go in our lives that impact our lives in an awesome incredible way. Trips like this are always a terrific experience resulting in lifelong friendships being made. It is humbling when people thank you for something that personally wasn’t a big deal. I truly appreciate the time I spent with other wounded Warriors, the guides and the sponsors. It always ends with a great amount of positivity and great friends.

Another outstanding WWIA event in the books, what a great time it was. All the Heroes and volunteers had an excellent time. Great bonding experiences for all those involved. I always love seeing the effect that hunting, and fishing has on our Purple Heart recipients that we serve. From when you first meet the Heroes until you say goodbye at the end of the event, you really see this amazing transformation. It really makes what I do as an Associate and Guide so rewarding. I truly believe in the Foundation’s mission and I am so thankful to get to be a part of it.

Kansas was amazing and Carl Suter along with his crew were more than hospitable. The wide-open spaces and generosity of the folks there made it extremely comfortable and I really couldn’t thank them enough. Also, of course I thank you and WWIA for everything you guys have done for me. Thank you for a great weekend. I highly recommend this for everyone. This has been better therapy than any VA can perform. I finally started to relax and then it was over. It was also a great reminder how nice and friendly these Associates here in Kansas are. It makes my lifetime war injuries well worth it knowing that there are still Americans who give the money, sweat and time to put these activities on to show their thanks. It really puts a tear in your eyes for them to show their support. The sort time we had to spend with our new Kansas and military brothers was great to share lifelong experiences. I highly recommend this adventure to all. It was also so helpful to be around my military brothers, to share our stories, and also to help each other’s mental health. I could not have asked for more.

Getting picked for a turkey hunt in Cawker City, Kansas is one of the most humbling things WWIAF has done for me. I haven’t felt this alive in a long time. Carl, Ted, Cole, Austin, and Herman are like brothers to me now, honestly, some of the nicest guys I had the pleasure of meeting and new lifelong friends. These 5 days of hunting and fishing have gotten me out of a slump & depression and I have a better head on my shoulders. I truly cannot fully express my gratitude!!

2017 DoubleCreek TN Turkey Hunt
When I first heard about Wounded Warriors in Action, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought what the heck, I’ll give it a try. I got the call from Corrina asking me to go on a turkey hunt, and I said absolutely I’d love to go. Everything was setup and I arrived in Nashville and met Derek Duplisea. We met Dennis and Rich and went to the DoubleCreek Ranch to meet Benny and Shelley. We all immediately got along great. The trip was so much more than hunting. It was great to be around guys who I could relate to who share the same struggles I have. We all talked of our experiences and I’m sure our conversations will help me through times ahead. I want to thank everyone at WWIA and the DoubleCreek Ranch for their outstanding hospitality and support, and their genuine care for Wounded Warriors everywhere.

My wife read about your organization and made contact. I’ve wanted to go on a hunt for a long time, but living in NJ, it wasn’t an option. The hunt was great, the Purple Heart veterans I met were like brothers. Derek, our Guide, was very informative, and being a Purple Heart veteran also made it easy to talk with and be around him. Shelley and Dennis made us feel right at home. Dr. Cato, Jim and Joel made it an experience I won’t forget. Thank you so much for everything.

I don’t remember when I signed up, but it was nice that WWIA kept me on file. This was my first wounded veterans get away weekend I have attended. I stayed in my comfort zone for almost 7 years. Shelley, Dennis, Rich and Guide Joel are truly special people as well as the Purple Heart veteran’s I bonded with. Brotherhood is brotherhood no matter where you are or who you’re with.

What an event this was, one of the men had not left home for 3 years other than his medical appointments. It took him a great deal of courage to leave his safety zone. His wife was so thrilled about this opportunity and I can say with confidence he went home a “new man”. The mix of generations from both Iraq and Vietnam wars worked very well this time with a special bond forming between two of the men in particular from two totally different age generations. We also had a service dog “thunder” at this event who also performed very well.

It was an honor to be able to host three Heroes at our farm for Turkey hunting and fishing. This is our third year of working with the Foundation, and we always look forward to the events and the opportunity to give back to these Heroes. The Foundation continues to do a wonderful job of supporting our events and arranging everything for the Heroes. Each event is a significant experience for us, and we hope that the Heroes receive as much benefit and meaning from the events as we do. We very much appreciate the privilege of working with your organization and hopefully, we can do many more events in the future.

This weekend was very much needed. I came on this event for so many reasons. I have been stressing over the fact that I am having a major surgery at the end of May. At the age of 34, I’m having total hip replacement surgery. This has been playing with my PTSD. So, to be able to come on this event and meet new vets and awesome Guides has made it easy to forget my future medical procedures. I was able to laugh and talk about better topics than surgery. So, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to have some peace of mind. Also, I can’t say enough about how awesome Tim has been. It also goes the same for all the guides. They made this trip unforgettable. I hope that everyone involved this weekend knows how grateful I really am. I can’t tell them enough how much they have helped me this weekend. So, I hope to be a part of more events and hopefully help to continue to make WWIAF successful. I would like to show other vets how you all have helped me. Thank you and Carpe Diem.

I’ll start off great. This weekend was fantastic. From the moment I landed until the moment I left, I was welcomed with open arms. I was more excited than anything because this was my first hunt of big game ever. I thought pheasant hunting was fun and challenging, this turkey hunt was fun and exciting. Every time I saw a turkey, my adrenaline was rushing. My Guide was Mike and he was a hoot to send time with. 10 hours in the blind, jokes, laughs and an all-around good time. We saw a ton of birds, so much so that I missed two shots. Well, after almost giving up, we saw 4 Jakes that were coming right at us. I set the perfect position and POW! I got one. I was more excited than I’ve been in a long time. To spend time among veterans is one thing, but to spend time with fellow Purple Heart recipients means even more. The trials and tribulations that I’ve been through in life were hard, but this trip calmed me down and gave me hope for the future. WWIA is something fantastic to be a part of. I hope to do this again sometime in the future. I want to end by thanking the wonderful hosts Todd & Dawn Bohm, the guides Tony and both Mikes. The family atmosphere made me feel comfortable, which is hard sometimes. Tim was an awesome veteran to be around and was friendly and kind from the beginning. If I had to do this again, I wouldn’t change a thing. Semper Fi!

If there is one thing in my life that is most important to me next to family, it is hunting. As an avid hunter from Illinois, one thing I’ve never hunted is turkey. I could not have been any more happy and excited than to be on this hunt with fellow Purple Heart brothers. We’ve all been through some of the most difficult times any person can ever go through, and we still will. My disabilities are sometimes a setback in life, but to go out with fellow sportsmen from around this great country is a way to take our minds off the struggle and forget our problems. This is a great time to sit back and leave worries behind and spend a great time in the great outdoors. I can never be thankful enough to Todd and Dawn Bohm for taking time out of their busy schedules to host, cook and guide us all on a fantastic trip. Thank you to all the guides and other volunteers for helping. Thank you for giving us veterans the best therapy God has to offer, ‘hunting.’ I wish nothing but the best to the other Heroes. We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails, and this trip was just that. Thank you WWIA.

I wanted to say thank you for contacting me and offering me the fishing trip. Thank you. I’ve never fished like that and the experience was immense. I really enjoyed it. It’s got me really fired up wanting more. When I’m outdoors I absorb every aspect of it and being around fellow warriors that I can trust makes it all that much more awesome. I learned some new fishing skills and I learned a lot about myself this trip. Now I’ve got a bug for more outdoor exploration. Best of all, I’ve made some new friends that live close.

While I was at Walter Reed, I got a bad taste for many non-profit organizations. That being said, this organization (WWIA) has redeemed it a bit. Every single aspect of this tip has been awesome. Everyone can relate and got along great. Every effort was made by WWIA to make everything flow smoothly. I was asked if I needed help, and my handicap issue was addressed very well. I had a blast. The fishing was awesome, but I honestly enjoyed the company and camaraderie the most. What an awesome organization, you all have my vote. Thanks for everything.

Thanks to WWIA and the DHMBT for letting me tag along on a much-needed break from the daily grind. Mark, you have done a stellar job making sure we have all been well taken care of. And, to the many friends made on this trip, I hope to see you all again soon. I feel very honored to be a part of such an awesome group of people.

This trip has been a blast! I got to learn and experience something that I never would have thought I would see. I got a chance to go deep sea fishing. It started out being rough on the water, then we started catching 30-40lb Mahi-Mahi, and it was all worth it.

I would like to say thank you to WWIA and to our host for giving me the opportunity to come out and spend some time with other Warriors. These past days I have been able to share and hear stories with other Warriors, even though it was the first time we met. It was like we knew each other for years because we went through very similar experiences. I was able to fish in a location that under normal circumstances I would not have had the opportunity to do. I am thankful for the incredible generosity from the hosts and the guides.

Great! Wonderful trip of my life, with no question. Derek was always there for any and all questions to be answered. The host (Vann White) opened his place to any needs we had. Fishing was outstanding, fishing guides very helpful and friendly. Thank you WWIAF, especially Derek.

26 July 2007: Iraq. I was wounded, my life changed, not for the better, although things did get better. Fast forward to 29 May 2017, British Columbia, Canada. Things are better. You gave me an opportunity to meet an amazing family and another great Wounded Warrior. Forget the excitement of hunting a black bear with dogs, forget the amazing food and lodging, forget the long hours and very tough treks through the woods, forget all of that and focus on what you have been able to give me back after 10 years of being wounded. You gave me a way to find someone who was somewhat lost, with little sense of camaraderie left. You brought Jake not to be a Guide, but to share our experiences, our ups and downs, for that I thank you more than you can ever imagine. Thank you!!! That is all.

So, 10 or 10+ years ago, my brother had this vision. We were all supportive, but no one knew how this vision would play out. I have always been in the “back office” with the paperwork. This is my very first WWIA event. Amazing! I have heard about it, the camaraderie, the friendships that form, the mutual giving. But never could I have imagined the experience “in action.” Thank you, Julie and Brad, for the invitation, thank you to our Heroes, thank you to my new friends, and thank you, dearest brother.

Thank you WWIA. This is the first time I have ever participated in any type of event and I’m very happy I did. My wife and I had a wonderful time and are deeply touched by the generosity of WWIA and especially Julie and Brad for opening up their homes and lives to us. You do amazing work and it means a lot to us combat wounded veterans. Until the next time…. with much gratitude and appreciation.

Thank you WWIA and Julie and Brad, the experience was wonderful. The food, the people, the fishing, everything was more than anyone could ask for. My wife and I would never experience this if it were not for everyone involved with this organization. You have a beautiful home and it was so wonderful of you to offer it to all the Vets. I would have never been able to have fished the Gulf if it wasn’t for you. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for what you do. Love you all,

Brad and Julie, thank you so much. The experience of meeting the Warriors and their wives was the trip of a lifetime for me. Hearing all their stories and what they have gone through & their wives (now my friends). Opening up our home to all of us on this trip is the beginning of recovery for many if not for all of us women. We know we are not alone. If we ever meet again you will always be in my heart and I hope to see my friends again. My thanks also to your family for all they have done while we were here and our Guide Gabe (what a Warrior). We will miss him dearly. Thanks again for all your support.

The weekend was so much more than we ever expected or imagined it would be. We loved the small group and the camaraderie that we were able to share in. The fishing both together as a couple and with just the Warriors was an amazing and fun experience. Our cheeks literally hurt from laughing so much-much more than we have in years. Our hosts, Brad and Julie couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming. We felt very relaxed and at ease in their home all weekend. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to attend this event and would be honored if invited to another. Thank you, a thousand times!!

I would like to extend a special thanks to all for making this opportunity available to continue the healing process after returning home. I am truly grateful for the Foundation and the team members who made this event of fishing the Missouri. The members of Napier Hunt Club and the generosity of the members is greatly appreciated. As a Wounded Warrior who has a great love for this country, I am proud to have served. But, returning home has been a challenge. Thanks, WWIA for helping me take one more step towards healing. Many thanks.

The WWIA event this year was the best Catfishing trip I have ever experienced. The people who organize and make this event possible are all about doing everything in their power to make you comfortable and feel at home. Plus, we caught some huge fish. Thank you WWIA for this amazing opportunity. It will forever hold a special place in my heart, as well as a memory I will never forget. As a permanently disabled veteran, I do not have the income to afford amazing opportunities such as this. Being a father of two beautiful children, it sometimes gets difficult to make sure they are able to do all of the things all children should experience, let alone do things to entertain myself. This trip would never have even been an attempt in any part of the foreseeable future if it was not for WWIA. It is also very difficult to feel comfortable doing really anything with my anxiety. Being around people I don’t know is really hard for me. The people at WWIA (Joe & John) made it more comfortable and welcoming than I could have ever imagined. It was like I was home. Thank you again so much.

Ever since I was a young boy, my dad always talked about going to Alaska with me. It was a dream we always wanted to go together. Well, life gets too busy and things happen. I joined the Army right out of high school and eventually started going to college. My dad was stationed all over the world for the Air Force and the Alaska trip seemed like it would never happen. Then, in 2009, dad died of brain cancer and I even shared a story at his funeral that I would promise him to get to Alaska someday. WWIA gave me that opportunity. An opportunity and experience I will never forget. After I lost my right arm in Iraq, my confidence was shattered, then after I lost my dad, I lost my hunting buddy and the man that would teach me everything about the outdoors. This trip let me go with a group of guys who I now call friends and it let me experience everything I dreamed Alaska would be. All while in the company of friends and experienced people who showed me what an amazing and special place this is. I will be forever grateful for this. Thank you.

One of my childhood dreams was to go fishing in Alaska. After retiring from the Army with medical issues and being a single dad, I didn’t think that dream was possible. WWIA has made that dream possible. This trip has shown me that I can overcome those obstacles. Thank you WWIA!

Things looked grim after the last day with bad wind and waves, especially knowing that 3rd day could be bad also. Separate from all that was the great mood and attitudes of all in our group. We saw Orca whales, Humpbacks, the was water was great and the catching was much better on days 2 and 3. Thanks to all who placed their trust and faith in me, it worked out well and many great memories were made. These were four days with great people. I truly hope I have been able to spread a little healthy living and truths in one way or another. Many great trips to come and thanks to you at WWIAF. I am honored to serve our finest.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to WWIA and Nate for the help and support given to me on this fishing trip. Twice I almost decided not to come due to my PTSD and the fact that I don’t like getting out or dealing with people or crowds. Nate made it possible for me to open up and have the best time I have had since 2006. Everyone was very kind and showed great pride in supporting us. I cannot thank everyone enough from Mark, the boat captain who put us on great fish and Ira who cooked us great food. I most of all want to thank Nate and WWIA. This trip helped me deal with my issues and the amount of stress that I was able to let go of or forget for a few days was the best medicine I could have. I think that dealing with the stressor of being wounded and most of all stress involved in seeing so much loss makes you close up inside. You back away from friends and family as well as life itself!
WWIA made it possible for me to talk with others that had the same or similar issues as I. This helped me greatly and made me feel like myself again. I feel my stress levels have dropped due to this trip and I hope I can take my joy and feelings of pride back to my family. I cannot thank Wounded Warriors in Action enough. Everyone was great, and I will always be grateful and hope I can one day again participate in a WWIA event. This will always be a highlight of my life and I am so very grateful
Remember you cannot have success without failure and this trip was a great success to me after much failure in dealing with my constant stress.

I wanted to take time to tell you all (Wounded Warriors in Action) how much I appreciate all you have done on this fishing trip in Dauphin Island. This is something I will never forget. Now I consider you all new friends. I want to thank you all at WWIA starting with Corrina Hart, Founder, John McDaniel, Nathan Allen, Ira, Ritchie, Keith, Mark and John. Everyone has been very nice, and I had a lot of fun fishing and the camaraderie talking to everyone. I don’t want to leave out the guides. Very good guides and I had a lot of fun with them. I would like to remain a part of the WWIA. I am going to try to raise money and let vets (Purple Heart) know about the WWIA Foundation. It’s a good cause. Thank you all.

To WWIA and Supporters, I cannot express the magnitude of effect you all have had on me. Since leaving the military and starting a new chapter, you all are one of my highlights, the ups to combat my downs. The break from the stresses of life is a breath of fresh air. Reality is what is at home and it is still there when you return, but the reality is also there are people out there who care and want to lift the weight off your shoulders and give you a chance to recover. There are these two realities that we have and must be put together to form life, good and bad, black and white. Body and spirit must work hard and then have time to recover to thrive. You all help us keep balanced. God Bless you all.
-SFC John Gatz, U.S. Army
I came along on the trip here to be helpful with dad but ended up being amongst the greatest group of individuals around (WWIA). The men and women at Wounded Warriors in Action are at the top of their class in all aspects of life, placing these Purple Heart Vets above all else. I have never experienced such a thing as this except maybe when I served myself and possibly at the Ranger’s Reunion I went to with Dad several years back. I can only hope that WWIA are able to maintain this level of greatness in spreading awareness and building an army of givers to continue to give back. I will soon be a part of this as well. I am so very proud and truly grateful for the Wounded Warriors. It gave me the opportunity to meet their amazing family. I will cherish this time forever. Thank you so much.

2017 WI Summer Musky
This was my first ever event with WWIA; for me it came right in time. After 17 years of being in the Army National Guard, I’m seeking a medical retirement. It’s hard getting out and missing the comradery. I had a fantastic time talking with the hosts, guides and other veterans. After two days of casting massive musky lures, I didn’t land a musky but had a couple follow into the boat. The hosts Dave and Joel did a fantastic job guiding and had top of the line equipment. Both guys were extremely dedicated to the sport and interested in my story. I really appreciate this Foundation and its members and can’t believe how much they do for our Purple Heart vets. Thank you so much.
-D. Berryman, US Army

This event was special for me. First, I was able to spend some great quality time with an 86 year-old Korean War vet. The advice, laughter, and life experience he shared helped both myself and SFC Dan Berryman learn that life indeed goes on and is enjoyable both after combat injuries and post-military.
The second reason it was special was because SFC Dan Berryman was deployed with our company to Eastern Afghanistan in 2009 and he and I shot on the state of MI rifle and pistol championship team 3 years ago. His medical retirement left a void in our unit and his friendship was missed. Then we are here, enjoying fishing together and re-bonding.
Thirdly, I never dreamed I would be fishing/hunting for the top of the inland lake’s food chain. To be able to soak up the information from the #5 Musky fisherman internationally (Jeff Micholic) was a world-class treat.
The conversations about Musky fishing, combat and life experiences between Warriors, Guides and Hosts were something to be cherished and learned from for many years to come. The Hosts and Warriors were that perfect summer event that we will all reflect on. Thank you for making these memories possible!

A great time if ever I had one. I can’t remember names very well because I am old…86. But in all 86 years, I can’t remember a finer time. I would do it again in a heartbeat. These men were a fine bunch to fish with. This is a great bunch of people. To me, WWIA is tops! My fishing with Todd was some of the best times I’ve ever had. A fine group of fellows, I can’t say enough. The WWIA made my last days of fishing something to remember.

I am so proud to have been a part of such a great event. The soldiers John, Jim and Dan are of fine character and I enjoyed meeting them and hearing their stories. This will remain a heart-warming memory in my mind and I will be forever in the debt of WWIA for inviting me to guide this event.
We shared our passion for the outdoors and gained a new appreciation for our varied experiences. I am hoping to fish with these fine men again sometime. I have given them an open invitation to fish in my boat in the near future, this fishing event is not only purely enjoyable, but it is a lifesaver. Something about sharing history and fishing has a way of “settling our souls.” Please feel free to use my name and services for future events. I would be proud to serve your organization again. 2017 N Bar Ranch Fly Fishing
I want to sincerely express my thank you to the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation (WWIA) for the event at N Bar Ranch August 4-7, 2017. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with fellow combat veterans, sharing their military and personal experiences. I had a great time fishing the Smith River and ponds here at the Ranch in Montana. It was more than just fishing, it was the whole experience by the N Bar Ranch ownership, the hospitality by the ranch personnel was super, and the accommodations were excellent. To begin with, I must relate my experience with WWIA. I discovered information about WWIA from the Purple Heart Magazine. After making an inquiry, I supplied a bio and received a quick response from Corrina. Next, I received an invite to the N Bar Event. This was quickly followed up by a personal call from Jon French introducing himself and announcing that he would be my personal Guide. I then received a plane ticket to Montana. Incredible! Upon arrival in Billings, Montana, I was met by staff members from N Bar Ranch. Such an organization to behold. I am a Marine veteran from the Korea Era, discharged over 65 years ago. I never thought I would connect to fellow service personnel again. It was by accident that I discovered WWIA. I am sure there are many other vets that have never heard of WWIA that should be made aware. Thank you again WWIA for all you do for veterans.

Awesome. Did I say Awesome? Words cannot explain my gratitude to WWIA for this amazing opportunity. The Hosts are amazing and took top notch care of us all day and even when the fishing day was over. All the Guides were so helpful and made this experience a lifetime opportunity.
The Ranch is an amazing place. It looks like a scene from a movie down at the river. It’s such a peaceful place and easy to just relax. Meeting my fellow vets was a great experience and made me feel so comfortable to be around them.
This has been an amazing experience, a truly once in a lifetime experience. Thanks again for WWIA and the Ranch for making this trip awesome. Thanks Mike, Dale, Shawn, Ryan, for making this a lifetime memory for me.

This is my second time helping out with the Montana fishing trip and each time just gets better and better. The people that the WWIA bring to our Ranch are some of the greatest people I have ever met. Getting to hear the stories and experiences that these men and women have gone through, it is really amazing. This trip I had the honor to meet a Korean War veteran that was so grateful and happy to be here. It is a great reminder to be humble and grateful for the things in your life. The stories and jokes that were told during this trip will never be forgotten by me. I can’t wait until the next opportunity to do this again.

I had a very hard time getting on the plane to come here for this amazing trip due to social anxiety and PTSD. I was scared I wouldn’t be able to go. What if I got there and couldn’t emotionally handle things? When someone expresses gratitude towards me, I generally become an emotional mess. I feel like I don’t deserve the nice things people say or do for me. I feel like there is someone else worthier, which is why I had to force myself to come. I needed to get out of my comfort zone and the only way I feel ok doing that is with other military members. Regardless of branch of service, we always have a common thread. Frenchy, thank you. You kept the conversation going and made me feel right at home. To the N Bar Ranch, I can’t possibly put into words how grateful I am. You treated us first class all the way. You also made me feel beyond welcome. Thank you WWIA, this was a much-needed healing experience I will always treasure.

2017 Kodiak Alaska Salmon Fishing
This is not only the best Wounded Warrior/Purple Heart outdoor trip I have been on, but the best vacation as well. For three days we fished Kodiak Island, AK. In both fresh and salt water. We caught every desirable species we targeted, met the top bear guide on the island, fished with the Operations Captain of the Kodiak Island Coast Guard Airfield, and spent time with a former soldier named Ryan Sharratt who owns the majority of Kodiak Airport. Last but not least was the amount of time we were able to spend with Sgt. Maj, Ranger, Green Beret, Fishing Guide, Tour Guide, Boat & ATV mechanic David Kiel! This man embodies what it means to be a leader. I would like to thank Sgt. Major Kiel and his associate staff for their hard work, time, and dedication in making a “dream” trip come true. The bonds of former /current combat veterans are for life. Forever grateful

This is the first fishing trip I’ve been on as a Wounded Warrior. I had the best time ever, with the best people ever. Alaska was awesome and although I already know Ranger Kiel, I felt like I was hanging out with family. John, Matt, and I got along like reunited best buddies, like we knew each other forever. During our 3 days of fishing and adventuring we built amazing key friendships with our Hosts and caught just about everything in Alaska that swims in water, I mean seriously, I even caught an octopus. This was an awesome adventure and fishing trip and I hope to do it again someday. John Keeney is a great ambassador of WWIA and a fellow sportsman and veteran as well. I couldn’t imagine this trip being this awesome without John, Matt, myself, Ranger Kiel, Ryan, the Skipper and all the supporters in Kodiak, anyone else in the trip just would not have been the same.

I kept a journal in Iraq. It was, for the most part an easy way to release my emotions and keep track of events. As I’ve gotten older, reading over the journal entries has been both therapeutic in the sense that I can reflect on the absolute shittiness that consumed my early 20’s and be thankful that the day I am reading the journal isn’t the day I was writing it. Painful in the sense that it brings up vivid snapshots of things I’ve worked hard to lock away in the recesses of the darkest areas of my memory boxes. This book is very reminiscent of my journal from Fallujah, same size, same kind of strap on the front. It’s nostalgic, but right now I don’t fear any of the emotions affiliated with previewing my old memories. Why? I’m still thinking about the shark that I fought so hard to catch today. I was consumed by the moment…still am. Hooked a shark, lost it. Hooked a second one, lost it. Got pissed off. Hooked a third one and was not going to let it get away. Fought it slow, fought it smart, let it take line, tire it out, when it’s tired, real like hell and pull the rod tip up, repeat. Well, I landed that bastard, I was elated. Sat down, took a breath and reflected on the fight. Sometimes you lose when you try, sometimes you lose when you try a second time, life sucks, you can quit. Some people can’t cope with problems. I have issues sometimes. Withdrawal is my biggest vice when it comes to facing situations I’d rather not be in. I figure since I’ve already been in the shittiest situations I’ll probably ever be in. Since I’ve proved I can handle tough situations. The problem with that is that I want to solve problems but am sometimes scared to completely commit to them. Throwing a line in the water for a 3rd time for a shark isn’t a big deal but I didn’t want to lose another one, so I admit I was scared of loss. Turns out things can work out pretty well, even if you do take a couple losses along the way.
I feel alone quite a bit with trying to relate to people in the civilian world who haven’t witnessed, let alone, participated in the horrors of war. I block people out. The fear of opening up and not being able to relate to others is a natural fear. But compounding combat and the things I have seen makes me all the more pissed off or unreasonable. Last night I took a chance threw a line in the water and opened up to Brad Boisen. He isn’t a combat vet, he isn’t a psychologist, he’s a chiropractor, a dad, a husband, a fisherman and a good person. I’ve told him things I haven’t told my parents, it was therapeutic. He listened and conversed without making me feel like a leper.
I’ve been emotionally closed off about combat trivia for over a decade. If anyone asks me about this I politely decline to share because I feel like they are either asking because they are just making conversation and don’t really want to get into a discussion or I don’t really like that that person would need to hold onto those images for the rest of their lives. I feel like those shitty memories are my burden to bear so no one else has to. This weekend was an excellent exercise in taking a chance in opening up to a stranger, to alleviate a burden that drags me down on a daily basis. I haven’t cried in 11 years and broke down this much. While holding Brad’s dog Vonnie, watching the waves roll in, I let go of my burden. This self-imposed, stupid thing I carry. I hugged the dog, released my tears and felt pure.
This trip was unreal. The Boisen’s were the best hosts I could have imagined. Excellent, every moment.

When you serve in the military, you are surrounded by like-minded people. They become your family and a part of who you are now. I served with some of the most wonderful people I have ever met to date. However, when you leave your life changes. You are no longer in a group of people with the same values, hopes and dreams, and every day is a challenge. You’re challenged through your ideals, you’re challenged by your experiences, and even challenged by your reaction to those experiences. And for some, our geographical location continues to isolate and challenge our abilities to connect with others like us. And for the few, our gender as well. WWIA brought me to a place when I was able to meet another female Purple Heart veteran. In the last 14 years, the challenge of isolation and challenge of character was placed on hold while I was able to put down the shields of war and rest, with the peace of mind to share stories and coping techniques of people just like me. Meeting another female Purple Heart Warrior brought back a piece of my soul I thought was lost forever. WWIA is a rare experience that saves lives.

I am so happy I found this organization! It has been quite a while since I actually made time to do something for myself like this. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, allowing your perspective to become skewed and to forget what really matters. Making new friendships, renewing old ones, finding common ground across the miles with people you have never before met. Glaring experiences, triumphs and failures alike, with no fear of judgment or pity, but just compassion and understanding. Brad, Julie, Crystal, Connie, Brad, Drew, Shay, Corrina, Marti & Cathy….you all remind me that a place is only as good as the people you know in it, and the Boisen home is without a doubt “among the best” (as we say in the Army).
You reflect great credit upon WWIA and I am a better person because of you. With love and gratitude,

Dear Wounded Warriors in Action,
Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in the 3rd Annual Galveston Fishing Event! It was a phenomenal trip with outstanding Hosts. I was surprised at how quickly and casually a group of strangers with a unique common experience could bond so closely. It was a refreshing reminder of the strength and resiliency of the human condition. In my line of work, we deal with 10% of the population 90% of the time, which can cause you to become jaded over time. This trip is EXACTLY what my soul needed to it that “reset” button. I can’t thank you all enough! Brad, Julie, Drew, Marti, Cathy, all reflected great credit upon WWIA. Crystal is a true ambassador. I enjoyed her company and appreciated her leadership. Very respectfully,

The event was outstanding. The heroes all had a wonderful time. Crystal was awesome and did a great job as an Associate. We had live music the first evening and the entire event flowed very well.

I was worried at first about coming to an event where I did not know anyone. After meeting the fellow warriors, I knew the next few days were going to be great. Everybody made me feel like I have known him or her for years! What an experience and I will always remember this weekend!

I had a great time this weekend. Even though I was scared out of my wits. I just wanted the smallest Alligator, and I ended up getting the biggest one. The people here are great. I cannot put it in words. They are the best, friendly, funny, and caring. I would love to visit again. Thanks a million.

True test of a great organization. Organization, fellowship, community, and commitment. Wounded Warriors in Action has the complete package! The level of compassion by everyone involved passed expectation. Involvement & energy with people involved is impressive. Hopefully the wonderful community will have me back SOON! Truly the greatest weekend I’ve had in years. Love you all for adding me to your family.

WWIAF is an excellent org. that inspires Heroes to be sportsman. I found the hunt to be amazing and the camaraderie even better. The community was so genuine in their appreciation for our service. Something I have never seen or experienced. Words could never express my gratitude for all you have done for my fellow brothers and me.

2017 Edwin Evers Healing Heroes in Action
The Edwin Evers Bass fishing event in Brainard, Minnesota was an absolute blast! I never would have imagined that I’d have the opportunity to go fishing with some of the real pros of the Bass fishing circuit. Edwin Evers is absolutely amazing for what he does for the Wounded Warriors in Action, it was great spending time with him along with Ish Monroe and Todd Faircloth. They are very sincere in wanting to do something great for veterans, and they went absolutely above and beyond. It was also great meeting Bubba Dukes who generously donated just to have the opportunity to go fishing with us.
The dinner we had the night before the event was a great time, and when we arrived back at the hotel we were presented all sorts of gifts. It was all very humbling.
The day of fishing was absolutely great. Learning how to fish from these pro’s was an experience I’ll never forget. This trip was also special to me because I got to fish with two of my very good friends and fellow Purple Heart recipients I was deployed to Afghanistan with. It makes it that much more special when you get to share an awesome experience like this with others that you spent time with overseas. It was especially great for me to see them have as an amazing time as I did.
Thank you so much WWIA and everyone who made this event possible!

I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to go fishing with three professional bass fishermen. I never imagined that this would even be possible. It truly means the world to me to be able to go and enjoy the outdoors and share my experiences and have some fun with other Purple Heart veterans. My transition from military to civilian life has been very difficult and I very much look forward to spending time with other veterans, especially in outdoor activities. I am a huge believer in recreational therapy for Veterans. Thank you so much WWIA, HHIA, Edwin Evers, Ish Monroe, and Todd Faircloth.

2017 Rocking R Ranch Elk Hunt
I can’t thank everyone enough for getting the opportunity to hunt Elk in Colorado. Thank you so much to Charlie Rehor for making this possible. It has been a dream of mine to not only hunt out west in the great state of Colorado, but to have the opportunity to go after Elk was honestly a dream come true. Charlie is a great man for what he does for combat wounded Veterans like myself. I am forever grateful for being able to share this experience with Charlie. A big thank you to Dan Reardon as well, he is an outstanding outfitter, guide, and now friend. I am so thankful for people like him that invite people like me to hunt with them, and I hope he continues to take many veterans hunting for years to come. I look forward to being able to keep in contact with him and all of his amazing guides. I really enjoyed our time spent together and sharing with them my past experiences in the military and hearing about their guiding experiences. I am especially going to remember the hunt itself having Dan as my guide. He made the hunt that much more amazing with his ability to hunt and guide for Elk.
The comfortable lodge and the excellent food was absolutely perfect. I also enjoyed being able to share camp with all the other hunters over the week, especially the other veterans and hearing all of their stories. Getting to meet these great people absolutely made this trip an even greater experience. Having opportunities like this one, to live out a childhood dream and do something you would probably otherwise not be able to do, makes it all so special. The healing power of the outdoors, along with great comradery and working toward a goal together, really sums up what the mission of this great organization is all about. Being able to be in Colorado with these great people and participating in this great event together was absolutely amazing. Thank you so much WWIA and everyone involved, this was truly a dream come true!

2017 PA Cast & Blast
Thank you WWIA for a great Cast & Blast weekend. I was out hunting and fishing with my brothers in arms. For a few days I felt like I did back when I was in the Army…joking around, laughing and just having a great time. I want to thank everyone who put this on!
-M. Trost, US Army

I can’t thank WWIA enough for having me back for the 5th Annual Central PA Cast & Blast. Fox Gap and Gravel Springs Clubs are beyond gracious for hosting us. I was very fortunate to be able to attend the very first hunt here, and again this year for the reunion event. It’s awesome to see how it has grown over the years! Everyone included has gone above and beyond to make these events possible. Thank you is not enough! It was great to come back and see old friends and make new ones too! I think WWIA has a great program and are doing great things for our wounded vets. Thank you to all involved!
-J. Wesner, US Army

I would like to thank WWIA for the opportunity to spend time with the other veterans. Although the hunting and fishing were surreal, the biggest impact on my outlook was the fact that two years ago I almost didn’t come to the event due to social anxiety. I know this a strange thing to express and to thank an organization for, but each time I’ve come ad participated I find it easier and once here very much enjoyable. Thank you so much for the opportunity, the experience, the food, the camaraderie, and the hunting.

Thank you WWIA for another wonderful opportunity. Coming to the 2017 5th Annual Central PA Cast & Blast was amazing. It was an honor to attend and see old faces and new. The memories made this weekend will be forever carried with me. WWIA does great thigs with great people for a greater cause. Thanks is also in order to Gravel Springs Lodge, Fox Gap Gun Club, and to the owner of Penn’s Cave. The hospitality shown by all is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jake, for all you do for this organization. Until we meet again! Semper Fi!

First, I want to thank WWIA for allowing me to be a part of their fishing trip. I was really blessed to be a part of the vets I was with and I said to my guide it would be the first time I would be fishing. And after all was said and done I caught a fish. Again, thanks a lot for getting me out of the box I was in.

I had an amazing time. I have been on a few trips with a few different organizations and the WWIA Foundation is the definition of family! The Guides make you feel exactly like family and I was honored to be a part of this event. It was amazing to have the opportunity to be with and spend time with a couple of Vietnam War vets and I can’t tell you how much that means to me. Those guys are heroes and were never treated as such. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to thank them and relate to their stories! Thank you!

I had an absolutely amazing time with WWIA Foundation on Eagle Lake. The trip of a lifetime! It was so amazing not only to experience Muskie fishing in the North Woods of Wisconsin, but to experience it with Purple Heart recipients from all eras. Everyone at WWIA from Corrina to the Guides Mark and Derek were awesome. Such a great organization and thank you guys so much for legitimately the most amazing outdoor adventure of my life. 2017 NY Upland Bird and Couples Retreat
Throughout my years I have gone through many ups and downs. Some of them in the presence of others, some of them alone. I have never been treated so honorably and loved, just as I loved this weekend. The Bear Hill Farms club made us feel like family long before we ever arrived. From heartfelt emails to phone calls they, along with WWIA made sure we were well prepared. Now that we have spent three days with these members. I feel like I gained some life long friends. My gratitude cannot be expressed in words. My wife, my family, my soul thanks you for refreshing me back to normal.

Andrew and I found each other after the war. For that reason, I did not have the same preparations some of the other wives had on what to expect from your husband upon their return. I dove in head first to a broken relationship with a devastated man. This is the first time that someone has welcomed me as a true warrior wife because of all that comes with it and not solely on whether or not I dealt with the deployment. Thank you for your acceptance, love and unending support.

This was an amazing experience that Temperance and I will never forget. We felt loved and treated like family. My heart was filled with pride and honor. Forever blessed. The love, kindness, and hospitality were just what we have needed for a while. Getting to meet warriors that have experienced combat similar to me constantly reminds me that we are not alone. We have each other and wonderful people that support us. I can’t thank you guys enough. Thank you. We love you. We feel blessed. We will cherish these experiences and memories forever.

Where do I even begin? I am not sure I can even put into words how much this weekend has meant to Cory and myself. It has been amazing to see Cory enjoy much needed downtime with other vets, doing something he loves. For me it has been a weekend of being pampered and spoiled beyond belief. However, the hunting, wine tours and spa are just a very small part of what made this weekend special. What really was overwhelming has been the amazing outpouring of love from you and everyone else this weekend. From the first time we spoke and all through this amazing weekend we have felt all of y’alls love wrapped around us and it has truly been the experience of a lifetime. I knew we were in for a weekend of fun, but I never expected to end this short time with new family. Thank you. I love you, Cory does too!

Thank you for having the soldiers plus their wives out for a weekend of fun! It’s evident that you get the whole community involved which is so important to them. Thank you so much for the invite, it was so much appreciated. I had a wonderful time. You are an absolute sweetheart, you will be in my heart forever. Thank you for all you do and have done for me, wives and vets! Without your sweet heart, your caring attitude the wives would still be under-appreciated. Thanks to you, wives are getting recognition and praise they deserve. I look forward to each September for this event, to see what the next three couples bring to “our circle”. The change seen from arrival to departure is 180* They all come as strangers and leave as family. I am honored to have met you, known you and most of all to call you my friend/family. Love ya, god bless.

Words can never describe my emotions and how much I appreciate through WWIA the opportunity to host the WWIA NY Upland Bird Hunt and Couples Retreat. I thank my Jim (Jr) every day that he had this image in 2010 to be able to give back to Purple Heart Recipients and their wives for all of their sacrifices they have made, so we can have the freedoms in America that we have. To give the warriors time to connect, share and to know that they are not alone. Same for the wives, they walk in as strangers and leave as best friends on Monday, it’s real! Having the event this year at Bear Hill Farm and Hunt Club (a 1st) went amazingly well. It will continue forever! I thank my community, friends and family from near and far away as they are who make all of this possible. I’m looking forward to 2018.

2017 WI Musky on a Fly
This past weekend out here in Wisconsin has been one of the best weekends in several years. Being out here with great guides helping us track down the illusive musky has been a blast. It was amazing to be a part of this event again! As guides, our job is to help people have a great time and enjoy spending time on our rivers. It is so cool to be able to share that experience with these Heroes. We got to spend time and get to know another group of awesome guys, enjoyed ourselves immensely and can’t wait for next year!”

Wow… How do I put such an amazing weekend into words? Even now as I fight this hangover while writing this riding in a truck, I feel sad that the trip has to end. I think we should make these yearlong trips lol. From the awesome chance to get to learn fly fishing to the most insane, French toast I’ve ever tasted and from nuts on Clark to the coin challenge. You guys have truly shown me a great time. The hospitality was humbling, and I am very appreciative. I thank what this organization does and represents is pure, honorable, and American! I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for the opportunity to get out there and spend the week up in Illinois. The event was absolutely amazing, I could not have been happier. Grady, Jason, and Charlie are outstanding individuals and it was a pleasure spending time in camp with all three. Reflecting back on this weekend is hard to try and capture in the right words. There will be things on this page(s), written by myself and others that cannot express the sense of happiness and thankfulness that this weekend has brought to us. Doing the hunting and fishing was beyond words. But what made all that possible was the extraordinary people that worked behind the scenes and with us on a daily basis. Every single person made all of us feel like we have known each other forever. They all brought a feeling of family to this event. I wasn’t able to say thank you enough for the support and outpouring of true, genuine sincerity everyone gave. Thanks to everyone. I hope that at some point we are all able to reconnect and stay in touch to continue with the bonds that were made over these short but meaningful days. Look forward to seeing you all again.”

As I sit here just finished packing all my things after an awesome weekend of hunting and fishing, I want to thank everyone involved in making such an amazing trip happen. Although I did not harvest a big deer, I did get chances, but I was too picky letting them go. It’s not about the “kill” but was more about the brotherhood that was made here in Delta, WI. Thanks to WWIA and everyone involved. I could keep writing but sometimes less is more.

“This week was an awesome experience. Delta, Wisconsin is as beautiful as its people are kind. The fishing was new for me and catching my pike is something I will never forget. All the hosts were helpful, but my guides really made me feel like I was home. Although I did not fill my tags, the experience was worth the trip.”

This is Christmas for me every year. I enjoy having guests and making sure they have a great time. My team is just that, a team. The entire community rallies around our needs and makes sure this is an enjoyable event for all. The many people that help out behind the scenes are humbling. It was great to ride along in one of the boats and witness the action, smiles, stories, and laughter.

2017 Camp Hackett A
I want to say thank you to WWIA, its supporters, John and Jake. This opportunity has been one of the best times in my life. The moment I landed in Wisconsin I was greeted with nothing but the best hospitality and care. The hunting and just being outdoors was an experience I will never forget. The time with other wounded veterans reminded me that I’ll always have something in common and never be alone. I also will always be thankful to the people of Phillips, WI, their genuine care, hospitality and enthusiasm to just hang out with us and share their homes, land and great friendship. Thank you again to WWIA, I’ll forever be grateful.

2017 Camp Hackett B
My first year at Camp Hackett in Phillips, WI. Thank you, Jake and John, for all of your dedication and hard work to put this trip into motion. Bow hunting whitetail, grouse hunting behind John’s dog Darby and Musky Fishing. I’ve been looking forward to participating in these events, spending time with other veterans, and relaxing at camp. I can’t believe the support that was provided to us by all of the locals. From providing us with food, land to hunt, and donations. It’s truly humbling that these people have dedicated their time and friendship to complete strangers.
-D. Berryman, US Army

This was my first event with WWIA. I can’t explain how it feels doing what I love, hunting and fishing with people that I know understand what I’ve been through and don’t feel like I am being judged. I can’t wait to help out WWIA any way I can and do other events/missions. Thank you so much to John, Jake and all the other supporters. The people around Hackett are great.
-R. Holland, US Army

I had an opportunity to go hunting at Camp Hackett over Veterans Day Weekend with John McDaniel, Founder and CEO of Wounded Warriors in Action. We had a tremendous time hunting white tail deer and ruffled grouse.
I wanted to let people know, whether you’re a Wounded Warrior, volunteer, employee, donor, potential donor, veteran, or somebody just browsing the web, that if you have ever interacted, or will be interacting, with the WWIA foundation, you are dealing with an organization run by my best buddy John McDaniel. John and WWIA are committed to the cause, they do things professionally, and they do things correctly. John and I had this discussion over the weekend: doing things correctly takes time. He is a guy who is willing to invest the time to make it right.
John calls all his Purple Heart recipients heroes, but I’m here to tell you, John and his team are the heroes! We didn’t shoot the trophy buck that weekend, but then again John and I can both agree, it wasn’t really about the hunt, it was about the brotherhood.

2017 Rig Em Right Alberta Duck Hunt
I just returned home from the Alberta duck hunt trip, and I wanted to send you and the organization my most sincere thanks! It was the trip of a lifetime. I’ve never experienced something that amazing. Tim and Matthew of Rig em Right were wonderful and generous hosts, and Bryan was a fantastic guide and I was honored to spend the past few days with him as well. Everything was run so professionally, and I appreciate the time and effort everyone put into the trip. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. I was blown away by WWIA and its mission, and I want to help! I would like to talk to you or someone about what I could do to become a part of the organization and help in my local area. I am still active duty and know that it limits my time I can give, but I think it will help me to reach out to the community here on JBLM. Anyway, I am very interested and serious about helping out the organization and our nations Warriors. Please let me know if you think I can help and how to go about the first step in the process. Thank you so much once again, take care.
-M. Marano, US Army

I am very grateful for the experience provided by WWIA and Rig ’em Right. I can’t think of anything that would benefit from a change. The schedule was great, food was awesome, and accommodations were great. Staying in a house and sharing rooms was a great way to hang out and get to know each other, not to mention the hunting was absolutely incredible. It meant a lot to be able to connect with other vets and the hosts, especially since there aren’t a lot of vets in my area. It’s also really awesome that a couple of those connections will continue to be hunting partners in the future. Thank you so much for everything,

2017 DoubleCreek TN Archery Deer
Thank you WWIA, Josh Krueger, Dennis Reynolds, Shelley Cohen, Corrina Hart, all the guys that helped out guiding us around DoubleCreek, as well as the other veterans that came out. Truly it was a great bonding experience with a great group of people. It’s nice to be around other people that have seen and done some of the same things you have. Rather than keeping it tucked inside because others would not completely understand it. I personally feel is not what activity you are doing, it’s the company you are doing it with. I personally thank each and every one of you for the effort. Honestly, it truly makes a difference.
-J. Mallery, US Army

This was my first opportunity to hunt whitetail deer in TN. My first day of the hunt started off in a beautiful scenery of trees with different color leaves and a relaxing atmosphere. During the hunt I saw two does and no bucks in the afternoon. During the morning hunt I didn’t see any deer. The second day of the hunt the weather was as beautiful as the previous day. In the mid 60’s to low 70’s with clear skies. In the morning I didn’t see any deer again and in the afternoon, I saw one doe which was well beyond shooting range for my crossbow. Although I didn’t harvest a deer I had a wonderful time with fellow wounded warriors, Justin, Scott, and Josh. Josh Krueger was very professional and was a big help whenever needed. He made sure we were safe and that everything went as smooth as possible. I would like to thank WWIA, Corrina, DoubleCreek, Dennis, Shelley and all the guides for making this hunt possible.
-R. Cipriati, US Army

I would like to thank everyone that worked to make the fourth annual DoubleCreek Archery hunt such a wonderful experience. Dennis and Shelley have a true piece of paradise here in Tennessee. This was my first trip to TN and I never imagined it to look like this with the rolling hills and mature hard woods. I get anxiety every time I meet new people and was nervous on the plane ride, thinking about what everyone was going to be like. That anxiety was gone within the first five minutes of meeting Josh and Dennis at the airport. Josh was an amazing Associate and one thing that will stick with me from this trip is the fight he has in him. Instead of thinking about what he can’t do, he has been a true leader to his family and other vets. I have caught myself thinking that I was done. I am too old to get back in shape, too old to try new things because it is safer just to glide through life. This is not who I was prior to my injury, but I have felt that for the last 6 ½ years. That I was great at one time, but I will never be great again. Josh is living proof that you can do whatever you set your mind to and it has inspired me to continue to fight the fight of being something bigger than yourself. Be proud for what you did and flip the page and set new goals. I felt that once I was injured, I was benched. I am not a twenty-year retiree and I don’t fit in because I didn’t do twenty, I failed. After this weekend I realized that is not true. I hope to use this motivation I have found to give back and become a leader, not someone just gliding through life because I am different and am staying in my safe zone. I thank you Josh and everyone that made this possible. The hunt was an event I would recommend to anyone because it was another lesson that is bigger than hunting. The first event I went on was about me and having a successful hunt and I missed the boat on the purpose of WWIAF. I see more of the big picture now. I normally avoid other vets because I was protecting myself from the unknown. The Army kicked me away, society does not understand me, and will other vets accept me, because the Army would not after I was injured. What makes these fellow heroes any different than the army guys I slowly parted ways with because I could not understand their careers? I am just writing thoughts now, sorry if it does not make sense. I have uncovered some feelings this weekend that have been locked away. I fit in here, not because we have cultures that are close outside of service to this great nation and the injuries we sustained from it but the bonding that I haven’t done since I was living in a tent with thirty guys on the side of a mountain. It feels so refreshing. I was successful on the hunt but that is only a small part of this hunt. I just can’t thank the guides, Dennis, Shelley and everyone working behind the scenes for bringing this opportunity to me.

2017 SD Pheasant with Grand Ciel Lodge
What an outstanding opportunity I had. To spend several days with other combat Wounded Warriors at the South Dakota pheasant hunt. The hunt was special, but the time spent with the other veterans was beyond words. The ability to participate in the discussions about how our wounds affected our lives for many years after the actual military event. I am so greatly appreciative for this opportunity provided by the Wounded Warriors in Action. The entire event was very heart warming. The Hosts at the Grand Ciel Lodge were so very gracious. The staff that participated in the pheasant hunt provided the skill and safety measures that made the hunt productive and very memorable. Now, on returning home, I will long remember this outing and the warm feelings I have for all those that made it all happen. Thank you, Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation. I also wish to express my sincere thanks to Jon French. I know that Frenchy had been working hard to secure for me a Purple Heart Medal that I had never previously received. Well there we were, after dinner, that last night at the Lodge. Frenchy had arranged for me to be presented with a Purple Heart medal, there in the presence of all my “brother” Wounded Warriors. What a touching moment. Something I will always treasure.

I can’t put into words the gratefulness and joy from this weekend. From the first call to the goodbye it has been nothing but an overwhelmingly positive experience. There are a lot of programs doing stuff but not as well as WWIA or with their hearts in the right place like WWIA does. Thank you!

This weekend was my first time taking part in an event and it was even better than I could have imagined it. I hope that in the future I can give back to WWIA and participate more,

2017 Alberta, Canada Moose
How do I put into words my gratitude and appreciation for an amazing event and opportunity. The outdoors boasts such a peace and raw beauty that everyday spent amongst it is one more day of pure tranquility within myself. Canada has a landscape similar to the Midwest of the United States, but even more stunning with its extreme abundance of game. Ever did I feel confined nor distressed but more like part of the team and always having a place to belong. The many laughs we shared will always be remembered. I never imagined that within a few days’ time complete strangers would become so close. Everyone in camp brought something special and I am honored to have new friends in such great places. To me, it seems that mother nature knows how to pair outdoorsmen together and connect. Trip of a lifetime! Truly, I am gracious for the opportunity to enjoy sometime with great people in a beautiful place. The complete circumstance of this event makes every part of the trip feel so right. Thank you to every person involved in every way.

2017 W PA Archery Deer Hunt
Western PA Whitetail Hunt was one of the most amazing times of my life. Everyone involved was wonderful. Everything we needed was taken care of, it was all perfectly planned from travel to food to lodging. The location was beautiful, so serene, almost out of a magazine. I can’t wait for my next chance to go back.

It was one of the best hunts I have done. I really enjoyed being here this weekend and the hunting and deer activity was amazing. Dan and his family and guides went out of their way to make the most of the event from the food to each person’s hunting experience. I would love to come back and do it again.

I can’t thank WWIA enough. There is nothing better than getting outdoors, making new friends and seeing amazing animals. I had a great time in Wester PA this weekend. The food was fantastic, and the family atmosphere is amazing. This is truly the best therapy anyone can get. There is just something about the outdoors that really helps me. Thank you to the cooks, thank you to the terrific guides and thank you to the outfitter for taking us in and treating us so good.

2017 Murphy Family & Friends Gulf Coast Cast & Blast
To say this trip, the people and the organization who facilitated it are world class would be an understatement! I am truly blessed to have been selected to be a part of this event. Hog hunting with dogs, inshore saltwater fishing in what is considered the ‘Mecca’ of catfish and trout country, and rifle hunting in front of feeders on gorgeous private lands are only some of the fantastic things we took part of in this weekend. We met some of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure to associate with. The food was great, and the company was even better. Truly world class!!

I had one of the best weekends since I got back from Fallujah over 10 years ago. I found a camaraderie that I’ve been missing and being surrounded by brothers who understand what I’ve been through is incredibly cathartic. Thank you so much to all the people who made this happen. You can’t find better people then this anywhere! I hope to pay this forward to the next warrior and help this organization grow. It’s truly a worthy cause. Thank you for all you do!

The people who facilitated this trip are truly amazing. I arrived as a guest and left as family. Rock and Mark have put so much into this program and ensured that anyone who attended had a wonderful time. Ray, Kenny, Josh, Matt, Ronnie, Jody and the rest of my Southern Mississippi family have made this trip one of the best therapeutic event I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. I have made relationships that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your family. I am so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to our next adventure.

As always, the Murphy family and friends hit I out of the park this past weekend. The group of warriors that I had the pleasure of spending time with were incredible! I absolutely loved being with these great men and know they will be a part of my life moving forward! So many thanks to so many people to make this so successful. Thank you WWIA for continuing to entrust in me the opportunity to serve and be a part of something larger than myself.

Awesome event! All the warriors were excellent guests, conducted themselves professionally, participated in the event 100 percent, engaged with numerous members of the community and were very thankful for everyone’s involvement and appreciative of their time and involvement in the event.

2017 Kuneytown FLX D & B
I retired in May of this year. Since then I have had a bit of a time getting adjusted to being a civilian. I have missed the camaraderie of my fellow Marines, the guys I could trust for advice and guidance. I have felt somewhat lost since getting out of the Corps. Attending the Wounded Warriors in Action Ducks & Bucks Hunt with fellow service members gave me back some of the camaraderie I have missed. It also gave me the excitement and adrenaline rush that came with being a Marine. I felt comfortable with my guides Keith and Scott and was able to share some of the baggage I have been carrying around from the past few years. It was a great experience, one I will never forget. Thank you, Wounded Warriors in Action for such a wonderful experience! Semper Fi

2017 MoKan Ducks, Bucks, and Trapping Event
The MO-KAN event was truly a God-send for me. Just to know that the people of America actually appreciate what we did for the country is a humbling moment to say the least. Words can’t really describe the experience that was generously given to us and the personal connections made. It’s special moments like the thrill of walking up to a set with a coyote in it or the anticipation of a group of ducks coming in to your decoys that really define the finer points of this great region and it’s the people like the ones here that exude the word community and represent what America is all about. This was a priceless experience, thank you to all.

2017 MoKan was amazing. Never have I been able to harvest two deer, ducks and geese all in four days. Everyone who planned this, and all of the volunteers did an amazing job. Thank you everyone for everything you did for me, I truly appreciate it. This will be one trip I never forget.

To all concerned, thank you so much for the most heartfelt phenominal weekend I have ever had in my life. Everyone went well beyond and above to make us feel welcome and part of the family. I can’t possibly explain in words what this meant to me this weekend and all of you who pulled this off will always be in my heart and prayers forever. God bless you all. I came as a stranger and left with a huge family and a lot of new brothers!

I would like to thank WWIAF for the opportunity of a lifetime that I just experienced – a whitetail deer hunt in Missouri! Something I always dreamed about but never imagined something like this would ever happen to me! After receiving the invitation to participate, I began counting down the days…. just like a child waiting for Santa to come. Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined what was in store for me …From the beginning of this experience, everything was planned and run like a clock. The accommodations at Napier Hunt Club were first class. WWIAF made sure that we wanted for nothing….if they didn’t already have it – all you had to do was ask. Everyone there went above and beyond to make sure we were welcome, comfortable and having the time of our lives. The experience, hospitality and camaraderie was without question beyond belief. I went there as a stranger and came home with new friendships and an enlarged family. I would also like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time in their own lives to help out with the hunt to make sure everything ran smoothly…and that the 10 “warriors” had the time of their life! Great job! It seemed like the entire community came together for the MoKan Ducks & Bucks event – even the school children. I was very touched by the cards and mementos that the children made for us. I will treasure the things the kids made for us forever! When I tell my friends and family about the hunt, the last thing they hear is, “oh, yeah I got a buck.” I went with the expectation and hopes of getting a big buck but after I got there, suddenly that was not the important thing anymore.
Thanks to everyone from the bottom of my heart!

We decided to host an event to thank and support some of the heroes served by WWIA. As was the case last year, I watched the heroes share their stories with each other and the volunteers and through their own clearly indominatable spirit, leave a lasting impression on each of us that was there to host and support them. We were again humbled by the experience and grateful for the opportunity to support these wonderful men. This was our second year hosting this event and I had more people volunteer to help that we could use, and we have received additional offers of land to hunt next year from neighbors who heard about the event. All the volunteers again expressed their thanks for the opportunity to volunteer and support these heroes.

2017 Oregon Bobcat Hunt
This was my first real hunting experience and it was a blast. I have met some amazing people who will forever be remembered and keep in contact with. I have been told for a while since my departure from the military, that hunting could be an outlet. That being said, this has been my first real outing. It is very hard to put into words how excited I was and still am to have traveled, met people who have walked in my shoes, and can relate to past experiences. WWIA as well as our Hosts have given me back so much. Thank you does not do it justice. And, I got the first cat! Thank you, Joe, WWIA, Heath and his wife, and everyone else I had the honor to meet.
-J. Davis, US Army

Never been cat or hound hunting. I recently got back into hunting the last few years. This opportunity was truly wonderful. I learned so much about the hound hunting community as well as hunting a bobcat. I found that patience also plays a lot of time in this sport as well as the rush of when the hounds get the scent of the bobcat. The Oregon Bobcat community was so great. They took their own time away from their lives to spend the weekend with us. They made sure that I was given the opportunity of getting a bobcat. At the dinner that was held for WWIA and us Purple Heart awardees, I felt honored. We were thanked numerous times for our service and sacrifice. But, I told a few people that this ‘event’, this hunting experience was the reason why I served and did what we did. Thank you to the Oregon hound hunting group and to WWIA for allowing me to experience this event.

Joe, I cannot thank you and WWIA enough for this fantastic experience. This program is absolutely amazing. The connections and friendships that have been built will last forever. My experience with WWIA and the Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club will never be forgotten. The support, friendship, and kindness are second to none.
-M. King, US Army

Since partnering with WWIA, The Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club has seen an immense growth in appreciation of our veterans within our organization. It is quite a humbling experience to be in the presence of people who in the flesh seem to be the same as you or I yet have given and done so much for our country. It feels inadequate to provide something so small as a hot meal, hunting experiences and fellowship- but the gratitude we received is unexplainable and beyond rewarding.

2017 Newfield Deer Hunt
I don’t get many opportunities to spend time in the woods, so this weekend was a real blessing to me, especially the time I spent with fellow wounded veterans. It was so peaceful in the woods of upstate New York. I got to see some familiar wildlife that I would see growing up in Michigan. The cold air reminded me that outside of Texas there are all four seasons (in Texas we have two summer and January). I would like to say a big thank you to the Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation for this incredible opportunity.

One word, Semper Fi. Tagging deer is just a small part of the hunt. Being in a good environment is the best. I’ve been in many hunts in my life, this was one of the best. No pressure. The hunting property was awesome, a great time. Tim Spence is the best all around person you could have had as a leader. Awesome event. Semper Fi.

Our experience with WWIA has been terrific. Our new Associate this year, Tim Spence, fit in perfectly just like Jeremy said he would. The warriors who came were very polite and so appreciative of the hard work we put into this event. Sorry we did not get lots of game this year, only 1 doe, but at least heroes had some meat to take home with them. Made a couple of life-long friends in this group and we will be getting together again in the coming year. Thanks, WWIA for all you do!

Wow! That’s all I can say about the first-class accommodations and hospitality that Andy and his whole family has shown us for the entirety of our trip/stay. The food, cabin, hunts, and people will never be forgotten. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a weekend amongst friends and fellow Warriors. Thanks for the opportunity to attend such an awesome event.

Great weekend here on the river. Very peaceful and quiet. The host Andy was very nice to allow us to stay at the cabin here. What I liked the most was the fact that everyone here was pretty much military. The deer hunting wasn’t great; however, the quail hunt was a blast. I highly recommend this hunt for future consideration. New friends made and a great time.
-C. Artimovich, US Army
It was an honor to host Nick, Matt, Russ, and Chad from the WWIA group. This group of Warriors were humble, appreciative, and an absolute pleasure to be with. I will always consider these Warriors as friends. Special thanks to Andy McMillan and his entire family for hosting this group. The hunts, facilities, and hospitality were second to none. Again, I appreciate the WWIA organization letting me be a part of this weekend and all you do for our wounded soldiers. Looking forward to next year.

It was an honor to be a part of this weekend outing. More so, it was a privilege to meet Nick, Matt, Russ, and Chad. I hope they had a great time. This would not have been possible without the incredible McMillan family. Andy hosted a first-class event and his brother Archie and nephew Thomas were superb. Thank you to the Wounded Warriors in Action. I am so proud of what you are doing. John, I have always been proud to call you a friend, but events like this really bring it home.
