The last six months I lost my best friend and brother to suicide. I had a heart attack and heart surgery. I am an alcoholic and fell into a deep depression. I didn’t drink, but I spent money going payday loan to payday loan over $13,000. My wife and vet center counselor tried to help me, yet one night I decided to end it all. I was stopped by a call from a person to whom now is my best friend. I had met him at a PTSD group at the vet center. That night he saved my life, but I still didn’t see hope in my future. I stayed on my 5 acres for the last six months except for VA and Vet Center appointments. My wife, best friend, and my daughter got me to go on this trip. They packed my bags and watched me leave, then called to check I was here. I went out to catch a musky today and learned so much more. I remembered I loved fishing and it was false concerns why I wouldn’t go. I didn’t catch a musky but got so much freedom and hope moving forward.
